Anyone else found it interesting to compare the photos that different news outlets choose for stories relating to TW, particularly stories to do with sport?
For example, here are the photos of Lia Thomas used by the Guardian and the Telegraph.

Yes, the first one is "startled deer who wouldn't hurt a fly", the second is more "brick shithouse in lycra".

I really like the race line up one. 3 women together and this individual off to the side, looking like a mountain in comparison.

Joolsin · 13/06/2024 16:37

Wow, I haven't seen that pic before - the shoulders are immense!

LonginesPrime · 13/06/2024 16:44

I don't think the Guardian one makes Thomas look particularly feminine. I saw it earlier today and my first impression was "it says a lot that in swimming gear, a transwoman just looks like a regular man".

It could be argued that it's a "feminine" pose and the wide eyes suggest innocence/victimhood, but it kind of makes sense to use a swimming picture for a swimmer to provide context. Plus, it looks more like Thomas was pulling up the cap to hear what was being said, which also explains the quizzical expression.

Neither photo gives the impression that Thomas is female though, IMO.

Rightsraptor · 13/06/2024 16:50

The papers who favoured him didn't use full length photos of Thomas when he was busy cheating women out of their just deserts because his genitals were obvious. A picture speaks a thousand words.

One of the DT comments is from man who is a former rugby player who says Thomas's shoulders are bigger than his.

AccidentallyWesAnderson · 13/06/2024 17:58

I remember Owen Jones saying on the Jeremy Vine show that the photos of Lia with the female swimmers on the podium were doctored and Lia is nowhere near 6'4.

Aye OK mate.

Those shoulders are massive! I had a quick google for pictures and they are mostly taken at an angle, which creates the illusion that they're narrower, but - they're actually massive, as you can see in a straight-on shot. They even look wider than Adam Peaty's.

Googlin images reminded me of how different Thomas's dive is to his female opponents. He's still battling only air resistance when they are already battling the water, landing far further on that they do, so having less work to do than them even before we start comparing musculature.

He's just a cheat.

Yes, an interesting choice of photos, as you say, those shoulders are huge and hold a lot of swimming power. Still, even if his shoulders were narrow, he is still a man and shouldn't be in any women's sports.

Enoughwiththisshit · 13/06/2024 19:58

Absolutely agree, Dobardan - a narrow shouldered man is still a man and has no business in women's sports.

Another example of TRA newspapers picking photos to try and minimise (as far as possible) the obvious:

Even just looking at the body language of how he is sat 🙄

biscuitandcake · 13/06/2024 21:31

At least the guardian used the "unedited" version of the photo. NBC allegedly (hmmm) showed a version of that in the water that was edited to be ahem a lot more flattering.

We shouldn't rule out the possibility of a really tiny head.

Precipice · 13/06/2024 21:33

I think the water picture's an old one (a few years old). I feel like I've seen it nearly every time LT comes up.

TWETMIRF · 14/06/2024 11:21

I believe strapping lad is appropriate to describe Lia

I guess that's what male puberty does to a lass Hmm
