Reform candidate's comments on women

Reform hasn't been discussed much on this board, but it's polling quite high ...

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cjmmrwexv4ko

'Ian Gribbin, the party's candidate in Bexhill and Battle, also wrote online that women were the "sponging gender" and should be "deprived of health care".
In posts from 2022 on the Unherd magazine website, seen by the BBC, he said Winston Churchill was "abysmal" and praised Russian President Vladimir Putin.
A Reform spokesman said the comments were not "endorsements" but "written with an eye to inconvenient perspectives and truths", while his remarks about women were "tongue in cheek".
...
... he criticised women, writing on the site’s message board: "Do you think you could actually work and pay for it all too like good citizens?
"Men pay 80% of tax – women spend 80% of tax revenue. On aggregate as a group you only take from society.
"Less complaining please from the 'sponging gender'."
He added that women are "subsidised by men to merely breath (sic)".
In January 2022 he posted: "Men pay 80% of tax. Women take out 80% of expenditures.
"Square that inequality first by depriving women of healthcare until their life expectancies are the same as men, Fair’s fair."
In December 2021 he wrote female soldiers "almost made me wretch (sic)" and were a "total liability".'

Their policy on equality:

'Mandate Single Sex Spaces.
Public toilets and changing areas must provide single sex facilities.'

In addition to being gross and inaccurate of the candidate, it's also pretty intellectually inconsistent for someone from the conservative Right to talk about women this way; if a man is financially supporting a woman's lifestyle they have a relationship dynamic. Surely a conservative politician would like to expand the nuclear family model, where women are at home and the men work.

At least try to keep the mask on!

fedupandstuck · 10/06/2024 16:51

Fucking hell, he really hates women.

Theeyeballsinthesky · 10/06/2024 16:58

Well I’m shocked, shocked I tell you that Reform are misogynist

(I’m not)

SpockUppet · 10/06/2024 17:04

I normally avoid ad hominem arguments, but will make an exception for this misogynistic toe-rag.

This man's head does actually look like it's spent too long up his own arse. It has a suppository-esque quality to it, especially with the smirk.

He does look like a smirking arse. Gives me the ick and not the least shag-able.

RoobarbAndMustard · 10/06/2024 17:10

I suspect there's going to be more Reform candidates with those sort of views coming out of the woodwork over the next 2 or 3 weeks.

ArabellaScott · 10/06/2024 17:11

'I am a passionate observer of the decline of British culture and the economy.'

This dude would think that Gilead is the ideal model, no doubt.

IwantToRetire · 10/06/2024 17:14

It just shows how people can pick and choose which bits of a party's politics that use to back up their arguements.

Many, many on the left have been trumpeting that the only parties supporting single sex services are the Tories and Reform, yet somehow manage to avoid any indication of either parties anti woman policies.

ie the Left cant quite grasp that women's sex based rights cut across party politics and the real worry is the left's failure to prioritise women's sex based rights.

(But am I surprised by this - and suspect many men in all parties have said things like this about women. They just dont get found out.)

PickAChew · 10/06/2024 17:14

He is quite slug like in both appearance and views. Of course he had to insist it was just bantz, innit.

ActivePeony · 10/06/2024 17:15

Littleststone · 10/06/2024 17:19

Arsehole. That should be the sponging sex.

😁

NonCrimeHakeIncident · 10/06/2024 17:25

I’d like to see him debate Julia Long, who is standing for that seat.

Redshoeblueshoe · 10/06/2024 17:30

I was just about to post that. I'd pay good money to see him v Julia Long

I would not expect anything but racist and sexist comments from a Reform candidate

I expect they have many other forms of prejudice too that we shall hear about

Ooooh I hope there's a way for this to happen! 😄

AstonToTheNaughtyStep · 10/06/2024 17:52

Females would pay the same levels of tax as males if they had equal pay and equal opportunities in the labour market. The legislation has been in place for decades and we're still not there yet.

Taxes are not the only contributions to society. For example rearing children, volunteering, caring for the elderly - all unpaid labour provided mainly by females. Mr Misogyny there cherry picked (or made up?) his stats to back up his own bias.

ArabellaScott · 10/06/2024 17:56

He's clearly a complete idiot.

Piece of shit.

jacksonlambsregulardisorder · 10/06/2024 18:52

Once again it would be great if we could point out how much (mostly) women's labour given for free in terms of caring etc benefits the economy. I think women in Iceland once went on strike to make this point. Wouldn't that be great?!

Gorgonemilezola · 10/06/2024 19:01

Discussion at home when Reform announced they'd be fielding 600+ candidates that there were going to be a fair few total nut jobs standing. Trying to find that many candidates from a pool of racist, misogynistic xenophobes was always going to be fraught.

Let them speak. Let the sun shine in.

redalex261 · 10/06/2024 19:04

Oh dear. What a tosser. I’m not one for making personal remarks but in this case I feel quite justified in quoting my old granny “he’s no braw, is he?”
