During the trial, the court heard from Verainer's registered carer and partner Paul Hart, who gave evidence clutching a Hello Kitty soft toy and sucking on a baby's pink dummy.

WTAF?

How is that not contempt of court? It’s making a mockery of judicial proceedings. And lets not even go there with last time he turned up to court dressed as an elf

I find this sort of thing so concerning. Its clearly not behaviour that can honestly be considered acceptable so why is it allowed in such a serious setting?

I think it's because gender reassignment is a protected characteristic under the Equality Act 2010. Discriminating against a trans person is the same as discriminating against people of colour, homosexual people or religious people.

I think lawyers must be terrified of being sued / charged for discrimination as that could be career-ending. Better to say Ms than bye-bye legal career!

Might also give people like this delightful person a reason for retrial/mistrial/miscarriage of justice due to misgendering and discrimination.

This is interesting.

'During the two-day hearing the paedophile asked to be referred to as 'Ms' and by the pronouns 'she/her', and sat in the dock thumb-sucking, with long hair in bunches and wearing a sweatshirt emblazoned with pictures of kids' ABC building blocks as well as the words “I am mentally 3-7 years”.

But the court heard Verainer, whose previous convictions include sexual assault of a child and possessing indecent images, has no underlying mental health disorder, learning difficulty or brain injury.

Furthermore, a psychiatric report concluded that despite an expressed desire to be diagnosed as an "adult-child" or with "adult-child syndrome", no such medical condition exists and was, the expert stated, "perhaps a life choice or a manifestation of extremely poor coping skills" by the defendant.'

Verainer is absolutely and every bit as entitled to be seen as a transwoman as every other transwoman. His offending history should have no bearing on the matter.

And frankly, if the court and police are willing to say he is a woman and call him 'she', then I can't see what's stopping them accepting his 'trans age' declaration, either. Changing sex is just as possible as changing age.

(We saw this chap before, btw: 'During those legal proceedings, the sex offender made headlines by appearing in the dock dressed as an elf')

Small mercies department: 'Verainer has been held on remand at men’s prison HMP Elmley on the Isle of Sheppey since arrest.'
