hospital stay

Just spent some time in a couple of hospital wards and it seems quite a bit has changed in these wards and has been my worst stay so far .
So an ambulance was called and I was taken care of , great, it was when I got to the ward is when I knew it wasn't right . The woman in the bed next to me was restless and not very aware and kept pushing the coverers off and her nightdress was all over the place ( mixed sex bay) . I had to keep buzzing the nurse to tell them the lady in the bed needed help re her bedclothes and her nightie .

The next ward I was moved to was a mixed sex bay . The toilet opposite the bay was female , great a female toilet next to bed .

One of the men opposite me had gone to the toilet and I had told him in no uncertain terms it was a female toilet and got a mouthful in return .

I went to the toilet later on that day only to shit and piss everywhere ( yes I was getting fed up ). So unfortunately I had to go and tell the (male) nurse and did tell him I thought it was being done on purpose now .

The next day I went for a shower after breakfast , unbeknown to me the lock wasn't working I still turned it ,it was not obvious it was not working. Two men one after the other wandered into the shower , seeing me completely naked . Yes I was sick of the ward by now . I complained to the (male) nurse about why the male patients are using this loo and he pointed to fact there is a sign that slides to male/female . But it still does not not explain why men are not reading the sign .
Women and their dignity no longer matter , we are no longer fashionable 💔.
I will no longer be voting SNP , the wards were not like this under Nicola , what does Humza Yousaf think he is doing? Women are being treated like shit in the NHS .

Women are being treated like shit in the nhs. This isnt new.

Rightsraptor · 20/04/2024 13:50

You poor woman: you have my sympathy. I take it you're in Scotland?

I can only conclude that it's part of the breaking down of barriers that some idiots are trying to put in place. These same barriers that are there to protect women. It's disgusting and makes me livid that women's dignity and safety is being so compromised in a service we all pay for

bluetopazlove · 20/04/2024 13:58

It's simply a sex issue they have decided there is no difference between the sexes . Unfortunately it's not good ,because not all men are good people .

@bluetopazlove unfortunately it was like this and worse at my local hospital under nichola. The only thing that has changed for us is longer waiting lists.
Quite frankly I 1st started to see this shit in our hospital when Stergeon put useless in charge of health

Freda69 · 20/04/2024 14:47

That is disgusting and I hope you don’t have to stay there long. As a fairly frequent flyer with the NHS I totally empathise with you. You see a lot of things you don’t want to see even when it’s just women on your ward.
I first realised what was going on with all this gender garbage when the nurses were talking about it when I had gallbladder problems about 3 years ago.
Can you complain to your MP, or the hospital chief executive when you’re recovered or do you have PALS in Scotland? Women just should not have to put with treatment like this.

Rightsraptor · 20/04/2024 15:00

I bet Yousaf's wife, mother or sister wouldn't have to put up with it.

EvelynBeatrice · 20/04/2024 15:37

I'm so sorry and presumably you're feeling below par and not like a fight. If you are minded to fight - and you'd be doing it for all of us - you could 1) ask for complaints policy 2) complain 3) tell staff you're expecting your solicitor and a journalist in next 24 hours as they're doing joint note on breach of single sex provision in hospitals...

bluetopazlove · 20/04/2024 15:42

I would have liked a fight but with illness other women will have to carry on a fight without me unfortunately . Not got long .

I hope you're okay, OP. I'm so sorry you've had a difficult experience made unnecessarily worse by bad policy.

Skyellaskerry · 20/04/2024 16:57

So sorry you’ve had to go through that OP, it’s just plain wrong Flowers

I'm really sorry Op that you had such an unpleasant time that was not conducive to your healing and health.

Unfortunately, I realised over ten years ago in nhs hospitals when my parents were unwell that you need a strong friend or relative to be fighting in your corner and advocating for you and your rights and best care and treatment.

It shouldn't have to be like this.
I hope you get home soon, safe and well.

agent765 · 20/04/2024 23:29

This is my one biggest fear.

I've been having psycho-sexual counselling for nearly three decades and covered my fear of being trapped in a ward with a male several times. Even a "nice" male would freak me out.

I'm so sorry you've had to put up with the shit that's led to this and the shits who have treated you so badly during your stay.

Villagetoraiseachild · 20/04/2024 23:30

You might want to mention which hospital this is.

bluetopazlove · 20/04/2024 23:58

It was Ninewells .

OP posts:
wineosaurus4 · 21/04/2024 00:12

Eeek - I'm in Perth and had my daughter at Ninewells 1.5yr ago.. I must say the care we received was average/disappointing at best!

Fukuraptor · 21/04/2024 02:55

Disappointed to hear that about Ninewells 😔

I'm sorry that doesn't sound at all hygienic, dignified or comfortable which is the least you'd have a right to expect in a healthcare setting for healing.

A complaint to the hospital, your MP and into the Courier would hopefully help improve things if you feel up to it.

I hope you are feeling better soon xx

Villagetoraiseachild · 21/04/2024 12:20

I hope it has helped to be able to write about it here, Op.
I understand that you may need most if not all of your energy to take care of yourself currently.

But if you have a little bit of energy or someone to do this for you,
I think Jenny Minto the minister for women's health ought to know, even if you just copy what you have posted here.

I personally think it's equality gone too far, men and women are different, fact, we have a different outlook on life and definitely different bathroom needs. Sorry you had to go through this, its really all you need when you're not well

I think women have become a nuance now ,even other women are making their life harder . I think what I find hard is the pretence that society had of treating women well is over .
I do believe men are gonna get the society they want .
If they want to get their kit off in a ward , they'll do it regardless whether you want to be exposed to it or not .
