I saw the thread was taken down, are Mumsnet going to complain about the use of their logo and data and public accusations of transphobia do you think?

I wondered about that. Thanks for letting me know it wasn't my imagination.

ArabellaScott · 19/04/2024 14:08

Might be best asking in Site Stuff?

WarriorN · 19/04/2024 17:09

Lily says it was hidden in error and is now back up?

ArabellaScott · 19/04/2024 17:19

If the phD student is by chance reading this thread, I think it would be possibly really useful and valuable for you to make an account, and talk to women here directly.

ArabellaScott · 19/04/2024 17:19

Ach, I meant to put it on the other thread.

IwantToRetire · 19/04/2024 17:25

As suggested on the original thread this event and FWR flagging it have led to this, quote:

JustineMumsnet · Today 16:31
Thanks for the heads up about this - we had no knowledge our site was being scraped (against our T&Cs) and the data used in this way. We contacted Aston University today and though they've yet to respond, as you've noted they've now taken the page down. We'll let you know what their response is as and when.

RoyalCorgi · 19/04/2024 17:27

That's good news, IWantToRetire. I'm astonished Aston University allowed this research proposal to be accepted without doing some basic checks on whether content could be used in this way. I assume all content on the site is copyright Mumsnet.

RollOnSpringDays · 19/04/2024 17:34

Surprised it passed ethics!

The actual words you post are yours, (ie they cant editorialise by saying we've moved your thread to some other part of the forum, as in doing that they are changing the context of the comment).

mumsnet provides the platform that allows these words to be in the public domain, and have rules as to what can or cant be said which you agree to in posting on FWR.

And apparently also has a clause to the internet as whole not to "scrape"

Which is not just about presumably their rights as the "publisher" but also protects those who post to not have our words used by other people?

eg on the original thread someone posted about how mumsnet had told them they had to get permission from each originater of a post before including it in a book.

The original thread is back. Apparently hidden in "error"!

Presumably, the willingness to be guided by articles in Vice and Pink News might point to a researcher mindset that abhors the notion of ethnographic research for fear that they would be contaminated and they would be unable to adopt the stance of neutral observer (what with having predetermined TRSOH, goodies-baddies, anti-trans, transphobia etc.).

You're right, of course. Sarah Pedersen engaged with FWR members about her work (with MN agreement) and has even engaged with threads about her publications.

Gosh, I wonder what the student would make of the words we'd love to say if not restricted by the words other people forced on us?

And tarnish their virtue by being seen to engage with TERFs?!
