Feminism isn't about women's rights

According to a judge feminism is about all genders being treated equally to men. Funnily enough I thought it was about females being treated equally to males, silly me.

Feminism isn't about women's rights

Well I thought it was about the liberation of women which is ever so slightly different.

Igmum · 17/04/2024 07:03

It's not well written but to me they seem to slide from feminism to EDI as opposed to claiming that feminism IS EDI for all. I see no reason why someone should not believe in equal treatment for women plus equal treatment for others. (Anyway he got sacked for doing other work in work time.) Don't think this one is a TWAW one, though obviously they may be.

MissScarletInTheBallroom · 17/04/2024 07:04

This is fine.

That still means that feminism means women should have the same rights as trans women.

This means women should be referred to using the language they choose, that they should have a word specifically to describe their own group which doesn't include people not in their group, that they should have equal opportunities to compete and win at sports, that their safety, dignity and identities should be respected at all times, and that several months of the year should be dedicated to celebrating them, during which feminist organisations should be paid thousands to provide training to employers explaining what their obligations are in this regard.

Oops no, you're right sorry:

The tribunal were slightly perplexed by his philosophical belief being a non-feminist,” the judge said. “It would appear to the tribunal a feminist is simply about all genders having equal rights and opportunities as men

(Sighs heavily). All genders 🤦‍♀️

All genders in contrast to 'men', because of course 'men' is the Sun around which the world revolves.

Genderism really does seek to cement the hierarchy.

Still fine.

We can all think of many ways in which women still lack rights that men enjoy.

Do trans women lack rights that men enjoy? If so, what are they? If not, they don't need feminism.

LoobiJee · 17/04/2024 07:44

Good point, MissScarlet.

Igmum · 17/04/2024 09:04

I have no problem with anyone and everyone enjoying the rights that men enjoy, I just wouldn't call it feminism. Clearly this judge thinks in terms of men and non-men.

😂😂😂

Seriously, grifters have missed a massive money-making opportunity here.

Tallisker · 17/04/2024 10:28

The Environment Agency try hard to eradicate the word 'sex' from everything. The Women's Network is now the Gender Network because it's oh-so-inclusive. There are some rampantly anti-women men employed there.

Imnobody4 · 17/04/2024 10:50

Good result but am slightly perturbed by headline.

Claiming to be a “non-feminist” at work could be an act of discrimination, an employment tribunal has ruled.

That is not a result of this ruling, it's just encouraging the men's rights activists to start frothing.

Yes, what on earth is this All Genders.
Can I identify as All Genders?
Everything Everywhere all at once?

Igmum · 17/04/2024 12:03

Consecutively or concurrently @turbonerd?

Hiddendoor · 17/04/2024 12:09

So still using men as the gold standard ideal then? Why not view feminism as centring the needs and rights of women which rather wonderfully improves things for all?

Because surely even the judge knows that wanting to have the equal rights and opportunities as men means, in this inherently sexist world, degrading things that aren't what society views as manly or beneficial to men...

turbonerd · 17/04/2024 12:11

Igmum · 17/04/2024 12:03

Consecutively or concurrently @turbonerd?

I’m undecided.
Though, come to think of it, does Man also fall in under All Genders?

Or is it perhaps Man/Men on the one hand vs All Genders on the other?

(How’s that even possible?)

PurpleBugz · 17/04/2024 12:33

"It would appear to the tribunal a feminist is simply about all genders having equal rights and opportunities as men"

"Men" is a sex class. "All genders" is absolutely everyone and referring to gender category. Sex and gender are not the same.

Looks to me like feminism has been confused with gender equality.

We can argue wether feminism is about women's liberation or about woman's rights or equality to men. I'm sure all sorts of feminists will define it differently. I argue feminism is concerning women the sex class, feminine gender and all genders are not comparable they are different things
