Accepting that there are offenders in all groups in society, McCloud says there may be some trans people who are rapists, but stresses that some offenders seek to abuse the law by claiming to be trans. “Just because the media* calls someone trans or offenders call themselves trans and turn up to court in a dress, doesn’t make them trans,” she says.^

Thought they were involved in the bench book that cemented if you say you're trans you are in court.

Well let's hope someone asks for a definition, in that case. Should be interesting.

Yes, McCloud was appointed to the Equal Treatment Bench Book committee. The Equal Treatment Bench Book aims to increase awareness and understanding of the different circumstances of people appearing in courts and tribunals. It helps enable effective communication and suggests steps which should increase participation by all parties.

Except when they're not.

It is not a good state of affairs that prominent TW stand down from their roles. It can't be easy to be a trans person in the current circumstances.

There is a particular issue for judges tho, the two views McCloud claims to hold, that sex is binary and immutable and that sex can be changed for all purposes by some paperwork, just don't hold together.

Creating such legal fallacies is what has led us here. Anyone can believe anything about themselves, but it is not feasible or fair to expect the rest of us to share those beliefs. Trying to create a system that compels us to believe that people are who they say they are will never work. We have to have a system that supports trans people to function is society without compelling other to believe in untruths.

McCloud is a disgrace to the judiciary and has caused women huge harm with the ETBB. As far as I know, McCloud is simply going part time and isn’t stepping down.

So, they have gone back to being a barrister.

I had thought they had resigned to avoid being disciplined for their social media activity including attacking barristers from burner twitter accounts. But the article didn't mention that...
