Oh please, oh please...

AgnesX · 04/04/2024 17:00

I hope so, it would be very interesting....

lechiffre55 · 04/04/2024 17:03

They should be so lucky.

Tempnamechng · 04/04/2024 17:05

That would be fabulous - especially since old friend Emma Watson is studying creative writing there! 🤭

GoodOldEmmaNess · 04/04/2024 17:13

Wonderful though she has been, this would surely never happen. Not sure I would want it to either. Would be better if the chancellor was someone so dull that their presence helped to refocus students on actual study rather than the mess of identity politics that is currently rotting the brains of so many of them

peanutbuttertoasty · 04/04/2024 17:26

It will never happen

lifeturnsonadime · 04/04/2024 17:29

I would love this to happen. It would mark the end of the 'no debate' era in the university. Absolutely shameful that such institutions have been so wholeheartedly captured.

AReasonablePerson · 04/04/2024 20:16

@lifeturnsonadime do you think there is still an era of no debate at Oxford? The Oxford Feminist Union were doing good as recently as last year. Moreover the hosting of Kathleen Stock and Helen Joyce at Cambridge debating societies in 2023 indicate that debate is possible. The students need encouragement perhaps.

lonelywater · 04/04/2024 20:39

I wouldn't rule it out. WE all know Oxbridge appears to be full of gender mentalists, but I wonder if the reality is that a few very loud and screechy headbangers are in fact, a small minority. (I dont know either way-just a thought)

ManchesterBeatrice · 04/04/2024 20:52

No

SidewaysOtter · 04/04/2024 21:39

Can you imagine the wailing and rending of student garments?

Edited

I went to see Sharron Davis at the Oxford Literary festival a couple of weeks ago and either the students hadn't picked up on it or they didn't bother to protest. There was one audience member with a DSD who was asking questions but other than that everyone was very pro- Sharron's position on single sex sport from what I could tell.

So maybe times are a-changing, thank goodness.
