'SNP ministers have set out their justice blueprint including cracking down on misogyny and improving Scotland’s crumbling prison estate.
The strategy, which will take until March 2026 to roll out in full, will include long-promised plans to make misogyny a specific criminal offence after gender was controversially left out of contentious hate <a class="break-all" href="https://archive.is/o/adYs2/www.heraldscotland.com/news/crime_courts/" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">crime legislation.

Under the plans to be brought forward by SNP Justice Secretary Angela Constance, a Misogyny Bill will be introduced to Holyrood to create new criminal offences in a bid to better protect women and girls.

The delivery plan set out that the legislation could be tabled at Holyrood before the summer recess of 2024, with the passage through parliament by the first quarter of 2026.

Under the plans set out following a review by barrister Baroness Helena Kennedy last year, sending threatening or abusive messages to women and girls which refer to rape, sexual assault or disfigurement could become a specific crime.

Others include legislation to criminalise misogynistic behaviour, misogynistic harassment, and an offence of stirring up hatred against women and girls.

The government are also seeking to bring in a statutory aggravation concerning misogyny, which would allow the court to take a misogynistic motive into account when dealing with a crime such as assault, criminal damage or threatening or abusive behaviour.'

April fool? I find it hard to trust them.

If it's led by Baroness Helena TWAW Kennedy, there's nothing to expect from this. Men will be included in the definition of misogyny and it will create extra bits at the cherry of perceiving they have been subject to the stirring up of hate etc.

Not a parody, in response to the news that college women are taking action about transgender women in women's sport the (US) National Organisation for Women tweeted: "Repeat after us: Weaponizing womenhood against other women is white supremacist patriarchy at work. Making people believe there isn't enough space for trans women in sports is white supremacist patriarchy at work."

I won't be surprised if and when Kennnedy comes out with something like this.

"Repeat after us: Weaponizing womenhood against other women is white supremacist patriarchy at work. Making people believe there isn't enough space for trans women in sports is white supremacist patriarchy at work."

It's such bs. Women, budge up and give up your (disproportionately small) share of the sporting cake.

Er... why?

Trans women have all the room they like, in the men's category, with others who have the advantage of male puberty. If sport isn't fair there's no point.

Anyway, I digress. Not sure I'm convinced about this misogyny bill, waiting with bated breath to hear more...

You can guarantee this will mostly be used to protect the absolutely most vulnerable, marginalised type of women. 🙄

Haven't they fucked up enough already? It's time to stop the nonsense.
All these new laws are poorly thought out, overly broad, ill defined, ripe for abuse, and criminalise what is simply poor behaviour.
It's like the SNP know they are fucked and are determined to make sure they take the whole of Scotland down with them as payback.
All brought to you by this absolute intellectual outhouse.

Kennedy has already said she is not limiting her definition of women - so basically it’s another piece of legislation designed to give focus to the hurty feelz of men.

AmaryllisNightAndDay · 01/04/2024 13:35

Gender? So not sex. Righty-ho then.

I’m just waiting to read that the Scottish government will bring back a Scolds Bridle…
They don’t want women to say anything that might upset men.

UltraLineHolder · 01/04/2024 13:37

Transwomen will most likely be covered under this bill so will be afforded double the protection.
It needs very careful scrutiny

If they thought they’d get away with it they would - until then they’ll settle for the virtual version.

Could be rebranded the Scots’ Bridle. They’d have no problem whatsoever identifying what a woman is if they ever wanted to use it.

A quintessentially Scots version would be force-feeding women tablet so we can scarcely ever open our mouths.

The 'Misogyny Working Group' has been trundling along for some time with no noticeable progress but now they're making a song and dance about it. What.a.surprise.

And males will be covered by the Misogyny Bill, as just about everyone anticipated -
