Feminism: Sex and gender discussions
Crankywiddershins · 12/03/2024 18:20

Good that this is finally starting to get noticed. So many young people have been harmed by this. Good day to hear that NHS England will no longer prescribe puberty blockers to children.

RethinkingLife · 12/03/2024 18:22

So I've just seen (DeTrans Awareness).

Should we anticipate conspiracy theories about the choice of this day to confirm that puberty blockers will not be available to children and young people with gender dysphoria via NHS England?

Blimey, I thought I was a jaded cynic, but you got there fast! You're probably right.

Back to the thread subject. Name an awesome de-transitioner.
I nominate Keira Bell

HagoftheNorth · 12/03/2024 19:08

Richie Herron (edited for spelling, still not sure!)

I heard a fab interview on radio 4 earlier but not sure of the time.

Some senior guy explaining they weren't "trans kids" but children Inn distress

And talked about need for neuro diversity support and mental health support.

And that 98% of kids on puberty blockers continue down that path so it's not harmless..

Yet many kids after a year will change their mind... The whole thing was brilliant

AmazingLemonDrizzle · 12/03/2024 19:11

I was amazed the BBC played it.

FantasticElasticBand · 12/03/2024 19:30

@AmazingLemonDrizzle
That was R4 - PM.

Dr Bell. Former consultant of adult services at The Tavi.
Basically, other staff were confiding in him re the massively increased rates of affirming, prescribing to children & the explosion of girls presenting.
Dr Bell (& Sue Evans?) tried to bring this to the Tavi’s attention in 2018. Dr Bell (& Sue Evans?) we’re the eased out shortly after.
Following this, a large number of staff left. New eager (ideological) members of staff joined.

Patient numbers continued to increase, which impacted on lack of long term explorative therapy ie patients were fast tracked. Culminating in the head of safeguarding Sonia Appleby also raising concerns and then ended up in an employment tribunal (she won). One of the findings was that staff members had been directed to ignore safeguarding issues and not raise them (the issues) with the safeguarding lead - Sonia. All whilst Mermaids were directing children from their service directly to GIDS.

Meanwhile where are the clinicians coming from to work in these new hubs?
How has Polly Carmichael kept her job?

AmazingLemonDrizzle · 12/03/2024 20:13

Ah yes that was it. That's why he sounded so knowledge able and authoratitive. He was absolutely brilliant.

Thanks for the added background.

Do we think this will make a difference going forwards? It's not exactly the accepted doctrine is it.?!

Just heard Forrest Smith on the Genspect webinar, he’s a detransitioned man, very compelling and thoughtful speaker

It's been March 12 for a couple of years now. Still, that was a good way to mark the day!
