The go9d friend and biographer of Jan Morris has been accused of being offensive by a woman who never met him because he uses Jan Morris's make name and masculine pronouns for periods of his life before he transitioned.

The top comments are good. People are knowledgeable about Morris and what Morris's daughter has said about her parent. Commenters are also pretty scathing about the RSL's actions.

The arrogance and gall of these people is extraordinary.

Rosenberg denied this, saying her “actions [in editing the obituary] were entirely to defend Jan’s reputation and to honour her memory, in particular her status as a champion for the trans community”. Johns and Fergusson responded in their statement: “Morris, meanwhile, would have powerfully objected to being described as ‘a champion for the trans community’. As Johns says, ‘Molly Rosenberg never met Jan and knows nothing at all about her’.”

Never even met Jan Morris but knows much better than people who did know him for decades how to refer to Morris and what Morris would have wanted!

Was anyone else boggled by:
The society said on Wednesday it made the decision this month to refer itself to the commission due to the “sustained campaign of misinformation being made against us, and the potential for reputational damage in media reporting”.?

Is it meant as some kind of “we have nothing to hide so we’ve invited the charity commission in to see that this is so!!” flourish? With a weird “everyone is picking on us so we’ve TOLD & you’re all going to be in BIG TROUBLE” inflection/subtext, just as an added bonus.

Smacks of trying to get ahead of something.
