Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

Such a good read - thanks @LargeSquareRock So many memorable phrases:

"pronounology is tantamount to a religion among the godless new elites"
and
"That women are human beings, who go through every stage of human existence, seems to be beyond the moral grasp of trans ideologues for whom womanhood is costume and little more".

CorruptedCauldron · 17/02/2024 11:00

Brendan nails it. It’s cruelty, pure and simple. A selfless elderly woman devotes decades of her life volunteering for a worthy cause. Then she’s abruptly cancelled for the crime of simply questioning the pronoun trend. She wasn’t being remotely cruel or hateful. The irony is that she has been treated in a jaw-droppingly cruel and hateful way by people who identify as being kind.

Boiledbeetle · 17/02/2024 11:08

The Itkoff case also confirms how cavalierly despotic woke has become, especially its post-sex, post-truth trans wing. The trans ideology has enacted numerous cruelties on women. Rapists in women’s prisons, men in women’s domestic-violence shelters, women’s sports almost entirely upended by an invasion of mediocre blokes who’ve changed their name to Crystal or whatever – there is no female right, no basic tenet of decency, that cannot be sacrificed at the altar of gender validation. Now, even the charitable urges of an elderly lady can be thrown on to the bonfire of the cruelties – goodness erased in the name of never offending men who think they’re women. That so-called progressives back this sacrifice of women’s right to organise and speak as they see fit in the name of appeasing delusional men is concerning in the extreme.

I agree with Brendan

No doubt a monitor will be along shortly to tell us that Brendan O’Neill is no feminist and we are wrong to read anything he writes.

But the man bloody gets it.

It seems that she simply had questions, because she found the forms of address confusing and she didn't understand. Blimey, it seems to be a crime if you don't understand and ask for help.

Well, that's every schoolchild off to pokey.

Justme56 · 17/02/2024 11:54

The whole thing has gone from ‘be kind’ to ‘be kind… or else!’.

acatcalledjohn · 17/02/2024 12:17

Oh, you feel bad about kicking out a 90-year-old lady who devoted 60 years of her life to your charitable cause? That’s all right then. She was told she had failed to abide by ‘our policy of inclusion’n’_. This is doublespeak on steroids. We’re excluding you in the name of inclusion, the society is essentially saying. War is peace, freedom is slavery, dismissing a 90-year-old woman for thoughtcrimes is inclusion. Rarely has the slippery tyranny of politically correct language been so starkly exposed.^

This absolutely nails it. Exclusion in the name inclusion.

Gagagardener · 17/02/2024 12:48

Excellent article.

determinedtomakethiswork · 17/02/2024 12:49

Excellent and absolutely depressing article.

Datun · 17/02/2024 12:50

He's such a good writer.

The entire article is quote worthy.

...transgenderism – an ideology that indulges men’s jealous coveting of the hyper-sexualised female body...

Sums it up for me.

Sexist, excluding, and ageist.

Pronoun Madness- Brendan O’Neill dissects the idiocy.
UltraLiteLife · 17/02/2024 22:45

Seems like a clear instance of this.

But when kindness becomes pathological, it is cruel and divisive — as with these examples. And it is on the rise. In the West today, there are people whose suffering is deemed to be non-existent or of little value, and so judgement takes the place of understanding, punishment that of mercy. The result is a purity spiral whereby extreme kindness towards an in-group gives unlimited licence to act with cruelty towards an out-group.
