US pediatricians gender lit review

However, from this review of the literature, there is strong evidence that children and adolescents who identify as transgender have experienced significant psychological trauma leading to their gender dysphoria. Also, there is no long-term evidence that current “gender affirming” medication and surgical protocols benefit their mental well-being. High rates of suicide attempts and/or completions in those who have received “gender affirming” interventions indicate that at minimum, long term controlled trials should be conducted if these interventions are to be continued. More attention and support should be afforded to individuals seeking help in detransitioning after having made a decision during their formative adolescent years with life-long consequences, including possible sterility and loss of sexual function. Therefore, the ACPeds cannot condone the social affirmation, medical intervention, or surgical mutilation of children and adolescents identifying as transgender or gender nonconforming. Rather, intensive psychotherapy for the individual and family to determine and hopefully treat the underlying etiology of their gender incongruence should be pursued.

This isn't the main authority for US paediatricians, which is the AAP. This is the very much smaller ACP who have some pretty conservative views already.

Every little helps.

PaleBlueMoonlight · 10/02/2024 18:18

Do we know if the AAP have done. Similar review or commented on this one?

Absolutely.

The emperor has no clothes on, and the more little people say it the easier it will be for the big people.

(Read, smaller group vs. main authority)

Good choice of language:

Therefore, the ACPeds cannot condone the ... surgical mutilation of children and adolescents

Say it as it is.

DadJoke, are you able to explain why the US and Canada are so out of step with most of Europe on this issue? Are all the European medical bodies wrong, bigoted, ill-informed etc?

NotBadConsidering · 10/02/2024 21:22

The AAP has announced it still affirms its 2018 statement but pending a review it has commissioned:

https://www.bmj.com/content/382/bmj.p1877

The ACP has just done its review sooner than the AAP. Regardless of its other views or positions, the ACP’s review concludes the same as other organisations and countries, like Finland and Sweden.

It must be satire to use the SPLC as a source of anything these days isn’t it?🤣

US paediatric leaders back gender affirming approach while also ordering evidence review

The American Academy of Paediatrics (AAP) reaffirmed its policy supporting the gender affirming model of care while at the same time announcing that it would commission a systematic review of the evidence and “develop an expanded set of guidance” on me...

Disagreement within the bounds a reasonable discourse is very different to relying on an organisation which says things like this:

“Homosexual men and women are reported to be promiscuous, with serial sex partners, even within what are loosely-termed “committed relationships. Individuals who practice a homosexual lifestyle are more likely than heterosexuals to experience mental illness, substance abuse, suicidal tendencies and shortened life spans.”
—“Homosexual Parenting: Is It Time for A Change?” updated July 2017, available on ACPeds website

2010
“School officials are being increasingly pressured by pro-homosexual organizations to integrate homosexual education into school curricula. These organizations recommend promoting homosexuality as a normal, immutable trait that should be validated during childhood, as early as kindergarten. These organizations also condemn all efforts to provide treatment to gender confused students, advocating instead the creation of student groups that affirm homosexual attractions and behaviors.”

The usual nonsense: report what has been said previously rather than what they’ve written about this. See also: every thread with a Daily Mail link, a statement from anyone who’s right of extreme Left, etc etc. So predictable, because to engage with their statement on the mis-treatment of gender questioning children would be to address the truths within it.

And yet, when the litigation starts, this article by the "much smaller ACP" has a good chance of being included in the evidence put forward by the claimants.

The game now is Operation Sunlight. Anyone who wants to put their reputation and livelihood on the line to say that there's nothing to see here is welcome to do so.

Has DadJoke told us yet exactly what parts of this document is incorrect and what the errors are? Or has this paper been dismissed without analysis?

It is very handy to have another aggregation of the studies. I am about to have a read of it.
