Hi friends,

Just wanted to share something, on Friday my son had his first ever date with a wee lass who like us identifies as a feminist.
I have learnt so much from posters here and you've helped me form views, self reflect and these have had a massive impact on my parenting.
Anyway, my son is still riding the wave of teen romance, but he told me he was so happy he understood her opinions, that he and I have always discussed things about ways to treat others and make sure he doesn't ever fall into the toxic masculinity crap trap and his date found him interesting, fun and respectful and they had a really nice connection that they are both comfortable to explore with hope of a romantic connection building.
My son has autism so he can struggle with social situations but yesterday morning thanked me for showing him so of the threads on here and discussing everything from consent etc with him.

I know mumsnet get a bad rap at times but I've found it paramount to have conversations I'd have never ordinarily have been able to have with other women.

Just a thanks, really.
Thank you for helping me think more and reflect that on my parenting. I appreciate it.

Lovely post Lwrenagain. It's a roller coaster isn't it being a parent? It sounds as if you've raised a lovely thoughtful son Flowers

Ahhhh! That's so sweet. It makes me feel all warm and fuzzy.

Although I wouldn't want to be a teenager again for all the money in the world!!!

I'm loving the teenage stage currently - he keeps referring to my pre him days as "the olden days". I was 19 when I had the wee shit 😂

No No NO!!!

Feminists hate men. Reddit told me. Stop being nice about your son!!!

But seriously it sounds very wholesome. Its nice to talk about nice things sometimes as well as the problems.

How lovely! It’s wonderful that you’ve been able to have such important conversations with him in his formative years, and equally wonderful that he has listened, taken it all on board and ingrained it into his person.
you sound like an awesome mum, who has raised a respectful, decent lad. God knows the world needs all the men like him that it can get!

Lwrenagain · 29/01/2024 04:57

Thank you all! 😊

Good for you. My sons are feminists too.

When my niece was younger (but not that young) she had a rant about feminism and said she wasn't a feminist, my teenage son said "oh how sad" 👏
