I tripped over an image on the internet, googled to discover a little more about it and then discovered this:

In 2005 I had absolutely no idea about what was going on. Anyone else have images from the past that you now see very differently?

Urgh. Yes, that doll seems like it could be a trategically placed.

the little blonde boy in that photo set, Parys Lapper, died of a drug overdose at 19.

Boiledbeetle · 27/01/2024 12:44

Given the other photo I've seen of him with the strap on dildo erupting out of his clothing yes I'd say the doll is strategically placed.

I've recently seen dramas from the 1990s that people told me 'hold up well' and find them barely watchable for the themes I pick up and the blatant manipulation.

He makes my flesh crawl.

Grayson Perry has been quite open about his fetish - he had his dresses specially made to hide his erection; the shock on people's faces when he walked down the street dressed like that was part of the thrill.

Grayson Perry's work on identity is used in GCSE art lessons. I know he is v mainstream and has made lots of well received TV programmes, but I do find it odd that 15 year old girls are studying an artist with a public sexual fetish.

Thought you might like to read an article https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2012/feb/23/gender-dysphoria-tyranny-of-normal?CMP=Share_AndroidApp_Other by Perry's wife, the psychotherapist Philippa Perry, written in 2012. This was before the unisex 'they' was so widely used, so she is -probably honestly - writing about boys/men. I wonder if she has changed her views in the intervening decade.

I don't read her parenting books, partly because of the views expressed in this article, but I know they have had a bit of a vogue.

As a bit of an aside, I’ve recently listened to a podcast where the host talks about Grayson Perry and says his dressing in an overly feminised little girl style “takes the sexualisation out of it” which I’m guessing she’s either forgetting or regretting saying.

Poor doll.
