Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

He's been a great support to women's sport. A shame we don't see other men as supportive.

shambolese · 29/12/2023 12:10

We all know though, don't we, that these cheating males will feel wronged, victimised - and that it's literal genocide - to ask them to compete against each other.
Daley is very aware that this happened earlier this year.

SapatSea · 29/12/2023 12:21

Yes, the "open category" solution when put forward is never acceptable, although TW are usually happy to win in that category too where it exists...as most men don't try to muscle in on it.

Nice to see Daley standing up for Sharron and Martina and the abuse they have received.

Caitlin Jenner is also clear on Women’s sport and that TW have an unfair advantage.

I liked this bit:

"Sir Keir Starmer, leader of the Labour Party, found himself unable to say what a woman even is.
It's not difficult – if in doubt, ask any five-year-old."

I don't think he's right that "unfairness to women is the unintended consequence" - it's very much an intended consequence.

FrippEnos · 29/12/2023 14:45

Froodwithatowel · 29/12/2023 15:05

Another great article.

As I said on the other thread: I wish we could get past the endless repetition of 'compassionate' which is the virtue signal that permits mentioning women's rights. It is not compassionate to treat women like this. It is something else entirely. And this continues to frame the entire situation as primarily about men and their feelings.

The comments at the bottom also show that the general public are now well aware that when trans specific categories and events are provided there are no entrants. They have not yet fully clicked that the experience requires using women to be desirable and satisfactory.

I'd like someone to explain the 'compassion' in that. And the 'fairness'. I really would.

ANightmareBeforeChristmas · 29/12/2023 15:25

Very balanced and sensible piece.

DewHopper · 29/12/2023 16:35

Now let's have all the other male athletes standing up for fairness...

SapatSea · 31/12/2023 09:43

@DewHopper agree. Men who voice support for womens sport don't seem to attract the same pile on as women. Wonder why? Xmas Hmm

OP posts:
HootyMcBooby · 31/12/2023 10:14

You would think trans women would be DELIGHTED to have a category where they can complete fairly wouldn't you?
Yet they seem to think it's unfair that they compete against other trans women.

It's almost like they think the other trans women are not real women, and therefore would have some sort of biological advantage over them.

And yet they have absolutely NO objection doing this to actual biological women who they want to be included with.

You couldn't make this shit up.

Fairness is a one way street it would seem.

WarriorN · 31/12/2023 10:18

Meanwhile, the Green Party rep for sport is wittering on about unkind park run insisting on sex registration.

duc748 · 31/12/2023 12:47

Parkrun has been told its organisers need to ensure that their data reflects each runner’s biological sex at birth. How are they supposed to do that?

Wild and crazy idea: I suppose they could just say, please fill in M or F on this form?

Froodwithatowel · 31/12/2023 13:21

Yes. This wail of 'but there's a few people determined to play silly games with this' is not an excuse to fuck over everyone.

gonogo · 31/12/2023 18:26

I've noticed that this issue doesn't present itself in boxing. I don't see any men boxers identifying as women so they can win. The reaction would be interesting to say the least.

@MagpiePi 😮

Just utter wow 😮😮😮

I was thinking no way would we see Tyson Fury losing a few fights, then wearing a blond wig and announcing his inner girly.

Okay he wouldn't but just WTAF 😮

That's exactly what we DO need to happen, to illustrate the utter insanity of the situation and bring it to the average people on the street that think these things aren't happening.

Bring on Tina Fury I say.

That'd be brilliant! It really would show just how bloody stupid this stuff is.

If a third category was created and sports went back to segregation by sex, I think the vast majority of trans identifying athletes would very quickly lose interest. After all, we know it isn't about the sport. That is why they don't want a third category.

Froodwithatowel · 01/01/2024 09:23

It's why third spaces are needed. It demonstrates very quickly that it's not an equality or access issue which would be justifiable: but that the desired experience requires using and subordinating women. Which is not justifiable. At all.

It's telling that it's the actual athletes who have this view, while it's people who spend all day behind a computer on Twitter who are defending lia thomas and co.
