GC Feminism in RL in Cambridge

I am feeling desperately lonely in my GC views and would love to meet some other women who share my opinions. Actually in RL, not just on the internet! Does anyone know of any feminist groups around Cambridge? I found Camradfems but their social media pages are extremely quiet and they did not respond when I contacted them. Anyone else out there? Thanks

Bumping for you!

OP, contact the Women's Rights Network via X/Twitter and they can help you make contact with likeminded, local, women

There's a Cambridge local group according to Resisters UK - see https://resistersunited.org/

Second getting in touch with the WRN, there are groups everywhere and it’s nice to know you’re not alone 🙂

Dear Toodleflip (and any other interested in GC feminism in Cambridge)

I was an active GC political protestor in Cambridge a few years ago (I stepped back from active protest for personal reasons, to focus on other parts of my life that required attention).

My old protest thread is here, Twitter here, and Twitter screenshots (in case you can't open Twitter) here. As I said this is all very old, it's just to prove my above claim.

I can certainly relate to the profound everyday loneliness that at times feels so overwhelming - the words may feel hollow, but you really aren't alone. Feel free (both Toodle and anyone else in the area) to drop me a PM and we can arrange a meeting in a public location for a friendly supportive chat, if that is of interest.

I'll be honest that since I am not somebody who uses social media heavily (Mumsnet lurking notwithstanding), I am not best placed to connect you to the wider groups in the area.

I will check in here and in PMs in a few days, as I don't want to spend all Christmas on Mumsnet (I realise how hypocritical this sounds at this time on Christmas Eve...I struggled on whether to respond after so long away from the field, but your comments on loneliness rang too loud to turn away from).

Best,
Magpie

Magpie, I thought of you when I read the title of this thread! It's good to see you're still around.

I haven't lived in Cambridge for over 20 years now but I was visiting last month and thought of you standing your ground at a time when it was so difficult to.

MmePoppySeedDefage · 25/12/2023 07:37

Hi Magpie. I also found you inspiring at a time when all seemed black and only a few people, including you, were brave enough to stand up. My (GC) son then went to Cambridge and I hoped to see you when we visited, to say hello, but never did.

I will now stop derailing the thread.

Magpie, great to hear from you. Your protests were extraordinarily brave at a time when there was very little sunlight. You hope you are thriving. You deserve you share of the credit for the progress that has been made over the last few years. Merry Christmas to you and the GC women of Cambridge.

Toodleflip · 25/12/2023 11:35

Thankyou Magpie, I will get on touch when the Christmas crazy has died down a bit!

I'm in Sawston, south of Cambridge, if anyone would like to meet up. I keep meaning to start a women's group in the village and not getting around to it....
