Rape and abuse victim executed in Iran for killing her rapist/abuser

In memory of Samira Sabzian, raped and abused for four years after she was forcibly married at 15, killed her husband/abuser when she was 19, imprisoned for a decade and now finally hanged.

I’m sorry there was no justice for you, Samira, and that you suffered so much in your tragically short life.

I’m sorry your two young children have been left motherless.

We know society is stacked against women and girls the world over, but nowhere more so than in Iran. So dangerous just to be born female there.

If only 2024 could be the year of regime change there.

RIP Samira.

Iranian child bride is hanged ten years after she murdered husband

Samira Sabzian, 29, who had been in prison for the past decade, was executed at dawn in Ghezel Hesar prison in the Tehran city of Karaj, the Norway-based Iran Human rights group (IHR) said.

Awful. I have no words.

That's desperately sad, RIP Samira.

Life seems so dangerous and grim for so many women in Iran. Yet they are also so fearless and inspiring.

RIP Samira.

The women of Iran truly are inspiring. I am constantly in awe of their courage, and I just hope they - and the men who support them - will ultimately prevail against the tyrannical, woman-hating regime there.

Cases like Samira’s are so horrific on a personal level but I think they also serve as a metaphor for the way women are (still) treated under patriarchy, on a general level.

Abused beyond endurance but criminalised, blamed, judged and punished for standing up to that abuse/our abusers.

The expectation on us to ”Be Kind” while ourselves being treated most unkindly is almost universal.

Samira Sabzian was so, so brave to stand up to this.

Horrific and it only touches on what women still endure at the hands of men while also being told over here in the west we don't exist and simultaneously have privilege. RIP Samira 💐

It’s something I worry about with the refugee crisis- surely all women are at risk in these countries and so should be able to get refugee status?

Abhannmor · 22/12/2023 19:17

RIP Samira 💐

Well, yes, but not all will want to leave, or be able to do so.

NeighbourhoodWatchPotholeDivision · 22/12/2023 19:41

Rest in peace, Samira.

Justcallmebebes · 22/12/2023 19:48

Rest in peace, Samira. Awful, just awful

Ofcourseshecan · 22/12/2023 22:31

Heartbreaking. Men made her short life a hell on Earth. The open, undisguised hatred and contempt for women in cultures like this is terrifying. RIP, Samira.

Cancelledcurio · 22/12/2023 22:33

Damn them to hell. Rest in peace Samira.

SeulementUneFois · 22/12/2023 22:42

Thank you for this, Arabella.

I was feeling powerless in the face of this horror, and that donation link is a tangible way of supporting women there. I’ve just donated to MSF, in memory of Samira.

Woman, life, freedom.
