Words fail me...

PaleBlueMoonlight · 23/11/2023 19:00

Just listened to the whole thing. It is awful.

AvacadoFieldsForever · 23/11/2023 19:35

We need a proper review of charities. You can just set one up to push your agenda.

ChishiyaBat · 23/11/2023 19:37

The only thing that book brought me was my dinner back up!

Imnobody4 · 23/11/2023 21:06

Good grief - worst book of year more like. Don't they know any children.

ditalini · 23/11/2023 21:28

How did they manage to write a whole book about Pride without using the words gay, lesbian or bisexual?

I had to scan through the whole video but yes you're right. Naturally G is for gender and L is for love. And as for W is for Wig, just bizarre.

ditalini · 24/11/2023 13:07

Yet gender, non binary, trans and xie are all included.

They even have a weird nod to asexual (without using the word) under love, where they make it sound like "you will be alone forever" - asexual people can still feel what we call love for parents, friends, pets. Obv they mean sexual love but have completely stuffed it up.

It's all so....not really inclusive at all.

You what? I posted a version that Rachel Rooney had done.

Here's a twitter link - x.com/RooneyRachel/status/1728207639493116186?s=20

There are so many great children's books; it's impossible to believe that this won on merit. It's not funny, or charming, the language isn't child-friendly.

Such a disservice to all the children's books that could have won.

Here's a different thread by Rachel Rooney, with pages from the actual book.

(she's also done a very funny parody, as in WaitWhat 's link above)

Here's a depressing read from Transgender Trend about another grim "children's book" about gender by a Cassandra Corrigan.
This is extreme social grooming of children on an industrial scale:

The Gender Book by Cassandra Corrigan - Transgender Trend

The Gender Book by Cassandra Corrigan is a picture book aimed at children aged five to twelve. A child psychotherapist analyses the content.

Quite apart from the dubious subject matter, these books are just astounding badly written. There must have been some serious corruption involved in the panel that choose that book or in the universities that gave the librarians their degrees.

There are a whole lot of moralistic and shittily written children's books around now.

I just quite happily weeded "Anti-racist Baby," a board book, from my library, because no one has taken it out since we got it. It's completely inaccessible to children, much less the toddler set.

But it's featured a lot in book lists promoting "diversity".
