Thank you for posting. I have been wondering about this “day of remembrance” as it seems to be gaining traction at universities, with celebrations planned, and I wasn’t sure what or who was being remembered.

It's utterly ridiculous in Reading, there's a three hour vigil planned with bowed heads and wringing of hands, mostly over prostitutes in South America.

Well done Jo, all the points lined up and clear.

The only thing this political movement hasn't yet re introduced on the model of medieval Catholicism is the fasting on holy days. Virtual hair shirts, self flagellation, confession, candles, vigils and prayer are all front and centre.

And meanwhile, 8 women report a man for stalking, an employer fires him for adverse behaviour, and the Police still don't treat it, or the murder investigation of the woman he stalked seriously. There are clear pipelines of escalation that end in violence against women and even death with no consequences for the Police who failed to act appropriately. Yet the Most Oppressed Caste has these remembrance ceremonies and public obeisance and some seem to have various police forces waiting by a red phone to leap into action as their private enforcement force.

@RethinkingLife that case makes me equally sad&angry. Why are women never taken seriously, but a man in a dress cries about being called a man and the police are breaking down womens doors. Why are women hated so much by men and other women?
It's so unfair that poor young womans life was cruelly taken by a cowardly man who will never face justice.
Trans day of rememberance be damned where is the womans day of rememberance? For all the women who were failed by the authorities, killed by partners/spouses, raped and murdered by sick men. Where is their day of rememberance?
