Nothing quite like a [job at] McDonald’s [for sexual assault & harassment]?

In July the BBC news website published a story detailing their investigation into working conditions at McDonald’s. The investigation was prompted by the company signing a legally binding agreement with the EHRC in February, including a pledge to protect its staff from sexual harassment.

The BBC’s findings included that of the more than 100 allegations from employees we spoke to, 31 related to sexual assault, and 78 related to sexual harassment.

The BBC have published a follow-up story today (09/11/23) about more victims coming forward to them; & to the EHRC.

As if the rampant sexual abuse, assaults & harassment wasn’t bad enough, there are also reports of antisemitism, anti-Sikh hate (for a bonus bigotry point, the example given was the variety that’s misplaced/misdirected Islamophobia), racism, & pretty much every other sort of hate going.

Obviously McDonald’s is a huge corporation - but it’s also obvious it’s one with incredibly serious cultural issues, despite their protests to the contrary.

I mean, the BBC hardly have a stellar track record themselves - & not just Mists Of Time/the C20, obviously the Saville cover-ups extended well into the C21; & they facilitated Brand’s abusive behaviour up until the incident with Andrew Sachs (notably, Ross received only a short suspension for his role in the matter & has never apologised to Georgina Baillie) - but they do seem to be trying, at least?

When this was first reported my DD (16 at the time) had just applied for a job at McDonald's. We quickly agreed that she would absolutely not be working there. Bloody appalling.

I worked at McDonalds as a teen and I would say the MAJORITY of the young girls, many only 16, were groomed by men in their 20s and 30s.
My friend who also worked at McDonalds and I talk about it frequently.

That’s horrendous @SullysBabyMama - if you & your friend wanted to you could perhaps contact the EHRC (there are details given in the first article I posted, I think it was) to make them aware of the historic cases & how prolific it was: it helps build the picture it’s basically an institutional culture problem.
