The Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons has left Stonewall

It appears that the RCVS quietly left Stonewall this year. I haven’t been able to find any information regarding this change, other than the Veterinary Record article pictured. That, despite the fact that I was one of the vets mentioned in the article who wrote to them, albeit a year earlier, regarding their continued membership of the scheme.

I’m glad they have left and hope that their comment about not requiring external help with diversity, which mirrors one I made in my correspondence, is true and they do not move over to any other transactivist groups.

To my fellow veterinary professionals, I hope this news is a relief to you, as it is to me. Thank you also to my fellow Mumsnetter, who alerted me to this news.

Excellent news!

Normcore · 18/10/2023 18:11

Tell them about Sex Matters and LGB Alliance

inkjet · 18/10/2023 18:14

I think this is quite short-sighted tbh. My chocolate Lab is non-binary and will no longer feel safe at the vets. Whatever happened to inclusion? Do better, RCVS.

Gettingbysomehow · 18/10/2023 18:15

Why would they be part of it. I cant imagine trans animals are a thing.

ResisterRex · 18/10/2023 18:18

Does your NB dog have an emotional support dog for vet visits? Do emotional support dogs have emotional support dogs? Where does it end?!

JellySaurus · 18/10/2023 18:23

Presumably it was never about the animals, but about supporting all the trans vets. You know, the hairdressers and dentists and whatnot who self ID as vets.

Fortunately common sense kicked in and the RCVS realised that validating these tranvets would be harmful to the animals and offensive to the actual vets.

inkjet · 18/10/2023 18:24

Resister yes he has a Pekinese who comes with us for emotional support at the vets. The Pekinese likes to bring her therapy Guinea pig. The guinea pig brings their (they’re also non-binary) stick insect. Fortunately there’s a gender-neutral consulting room at the vets.

"I'm not a vet but I know what a dog is."

DisforDarkChocolate · 18/10/2023 19:01

This is great news. I work with them sometimes and I'm gradually making my GC views more public.

I would laugh... only a horse (a gelded one) with penile cancer is 'trans*' apparently as his penis was removed due to the cancer and he now 'pees like a mare.'

*Thankfully not said by a vet.

Unfortunately was said by a relative.

Pixiedust1234 · 18/10/2023 19:18

Ace people?? That's a new one.

Well done @PriOn1 . Let's hope they don't give the money to another diversity group like other places have done.

Ah. I think I know now why, when my dog had an operation for mammary cancer last January, the form for her details had "Gender." I sighed, bit my tongue and wrote "Female."

(Soft as shite short haired Golden Lab, still plodding along at the age of 12).

Froodwithatowel · 18/10/2023 19:36

You're much better behaved than me. I'd have written 'demi boi starchild' on the grounds that ask a silly question, and you're going to get a silly answer. And I really don't have a sensible dog.

FortunaMajor · 18/10/2023 20:08

My female dog keeps humping my leg in public. I don't know if she's lesbian, trans or just a fucking bitch.

Great news though. The more money they lose the better.

FeelingVeryDisturbed · 18/10/2023 20:15

@PriOn1
What very welcome - and interesting - news.
Any insider info on the movers and shakers?

I'm still Feeling Very Disturbed by the numbers of colleagues who believe in gender-woo.
But at least my retention fee won't be funding Stonewall anymore.

Now, just to address the pronoun options on my corporate email header.....

musicalfrog · 19/10/2023 11:20

Great news. More please!

Chersfrozenface · 19/10/2023 11:40

Let's hope they now do something about the practice management systems referred to on the "I was asked my dog's gender" thread.

"Believe it or not veterinary practice management systems, which all vets use to store your pets clinical records, also have gender rather than sex on the patient details file. It's been irritating me for quite some time! I think it changed from sex around 10 years ago."

PriOn1 · 19/10/2023 12:21

musicalfrog · 19/10/2023 11:20

Great news. More please!

I will certainly let you know if I find out anything more. I am in contact with a few people and almost nobody has heard about it.

As for the gender and not sex thing, I also recall that change occurring in various places. I had little idea then what was driving it, or how pernicious it would be.

I do wonder whether our small campaign was what prompted the change, albeit a year on, or whether something else has emerged behind the scenes.

As a veterinary nurse for 15 years, I can confirm that a LOT of vets and nurses (particularly nurses) are full on TWAW. The discussions I have overheard in the staff room beggar belief from so called science professionals.

Vet nursing often attracts some "alternative" people (nothing wrong with that of course) but they are often also the people who seem to share the trans ideology.

I can confirm also that some vets do not believe sex is binary. Batshit crazy I know, but there you go, straight from the (non-binary) horse's mouth, so to speak.

Chersfrozenface · 19/10/2023 14:23

The thing is, anyone who works in veterinary medicine knows full well that there are only two immutable sexes in mammals.

But sex is a spectrum, and changeable, in humans? So presumably we are not mammals. Lower than angels, higher than animals, eh?

Who knew the Great Chain of Being was still a thing. We really are going backwards at a rate of knots. There"s nothing progressive about it.

PriOn1 · 19/10/2023 17:33

What is this sex binary thing of which you speak.

How often have I stood, swathed in green, musing under those burning lights on whether the newborn puppy in my begloved hand is exhibiting girl-gender or boy-gender traits?

More often than I can remember!

I think you're supposed to wave pink and blue and barbies and GI Joes, or knitting and spot welding at it, one in each hand, and see what it looks towards.

Those being of course current fashionable human UK stereotypes rather than dog ones, but it's not like sense or logic ever matters or anything.

No, no no.

You chuck a pink ball and a blue ball and see which one it runs after of course.
Kittens - pink ball of wool vs blue ball of wool.

Toomanycaketins · 19/10/2023 19:34

I might be inclined to chunter slightly less about the under care guidelines now
