I’m watching an interview with Andrew Doyle and Dr Hakeem and I’m wondering has anyone here on FWR bought/read this new book?

I’d like to read it but I’m a bit worried it might be very medically technical. I’d be grateful if anyone who’s read it could let me know 🙏😀

I saw that interview too and am thinking of getting it. Its available in paperback from Amazon for £17.99 and has 3 reviews there from Dr David Bell, late of GIDS, Helen Joyce and oops, I've forgotten the third. Positive reviews. They say things like 'essential reading for people working with this client group and also parents/carers' etc so I imagine it's written in language lay people will understand.

Dr Az is very good - I should think it's worth a read. I'm surprised I haven't seen more about it.

When I was looking at the Amazon description, this also came up - it's by an American writer, due out next year, and looks very good:

I'll take a look, TY.

I keep wondering when the NHS will put services in place for detransitioners.

Rightsraptor thanks very much for that info, that makes me feel like I’ll understand the book as a layperson 👍

Royalcorgi thank you for the link to another book on the subject. I’m also surprised that last night was the first time that I’d heard about Dr Az’s new book, I would have expected to come across mentions of it on Twitter etc 🤔

RethinkingLife I completely agree with you that detransitioners are very badly served by current NHS practices and that they need support/medical care tailored to their particular needs. It’s a disgrace that they aren’t bring recognised as a patient group.

If/when the NHS serves the needs of detransitioners it will dramatically impact treatment of those who are seeking cosmetic surgery for psychological problems. If correctly applied, NICE guidance would have to be against medication and surgery which has such a permanent negative impact on so many and costs the NHS long term with no evidence of improvement of mental health symptoms long term and a high risk of causing more harm than good.

Of course all the normal rules of clinical excellence seem to have been suspended in this sphere.

Thanks OP I will look for this book.

I hadn’t thought of that as being a possible outcome of the NHS treating detransitioners properly; you make an interesting point!

Isn't it bonkers how captured by gender ideology the psychotherapy accrediting organisations are then?

Because offering genuine psychological care rather than medicine and surgery is good news for their industry, right? Far more work for counsellors and psychotherapists through the NHS and privately.

I can't fathom it. I mean, I know much has been written on here about one of the people behind this orchestration at BACP, but how did they gain so much support amongst colleagues who should have been as sceptical about so called trans health care as they are about medicines such as antidepressants.
