In today’s Sunday Times Dorothy Bain KC, the lord advocate, makes the startling admission that “a large section of society is not experiencing justice”. This oppressed and excluded group turns out to be a significant chunk of the population, “predominantly women and girls . . . subjected to violence or abuse”.
Bain goes on to quote the World Health Organisation’s description of violence against women as “a global public health crisis of pandemic proportions”.
I repeatedly tell people that even WHO recognises VAWG as a "global public health crisis" and I'm met with (im)polite disbelief.
Excellent writing, heartbreaking and infuriating topic.
