LD - leafing thru bundle for page 'I think I've gone too far...'

Indeed.

That's exactly what I thought!

pronounsbundlebundle · 12/10/2023 16:31

@chilling19 I hope you're ok.

That was truly chilling to listen to.

Is there any way of complaining, as a taxpayer, about this academic and their research. The way they've gone out of their way to put women in prisons at demonstrable harm? The climate of fear they've created for GC staff and students?

It illustrates starkly that being an 'EDI' lead puts you in a position to mete out terrible discrimination.

LarkLane · 12/10/2023 16:36

Wow what a day Terfs! Thank you all so very much, you have been a great healing influence on this angry old woman.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 12/10/2023 16:40

BC please please please ask Downes what she thinks the impact of her statements are on GC staff / students.

This!

popebishop · 12/10/2023 16:53

This is absolutely glorious. We are watching someone actually have to argue their GI view, in a situation where they can't just throw their toys out of the pram and call bigot.

It's literal violence against me that I'm not watching this!

I would love to see him ask this but I am not sure it helps his case? Better to spend the time demonstrating the harm she is causing and let the panel assess the impact?

Yes, if BC's not asking it I'm sure he's right not to do so, as he is clearly brilliant at what he does (and not just in a self-identifying way). However, I would like her to answer in general and I'm sure all the GC people working and studying at OU would like her to answer that too. However maybe it's for outside this court case.

Maybe all the GC students at OU should write an open letter to Downes.... ? (kidding....I think)

RethinkingLife · 12/10/2023 17:44

Satisfying as it would be, I'm reconciled to the reality that we shall not have closure on this. Even if we were to have a Truth and Reconciliation initiative.

Janinejones · 12/10/2023 17:53

Remembering too that this is an Employment Tribunal about the legality of the dismissal of Prof JP. That might be narrower than the reasonableness of the opinions expressed by witnesses.

JoIsBraverThanIAm · 12/10/2023 17:59

I take the general point but it's not about her dismissal - she wasn't dismissed (unless perhaps constructively dismissed - I'm not sure whether that's a concept relevant here).

Edited

From her CJ page:

This hearing is a liabilities hearing whose purpose is to make a determination of fact. In my case, did the behaviour of several of my direct colleagues and the university amount to bullying, harassment and discrimination, did the university fail to protect me, was I constructively dismissed?

JoIsBraverThanIAm · 12/10/2023 18:16

Ah right, thanks!

Limony · 13/10/2023 10:05

That’s why you should always do a subject access request when the EDI political police notice you.
