'Labour has vowed to beef up laws that ban firms from blacklisting union workers. As part of the “biggest upgrade to workers’ rights in a generation”, Deputy Leader Angela Rayner is set announce outdated regulations would be updated to cover new, underhanded tactics from rogue bosses.''There are fears unscrupulous employers could use AI technology to “guess” if prospective employers are union members - something that would be banned under Labour ’s reforms. And the shake-up would close a loophole that allows bosses to “contract the dirty work” of blacklisting to third-party companies. It would also give Employment Tribunals the power to order firms to destroy any lists they are found to have - as well as any digital copies to ensure that lists can’t be hidden and used again.'And what about protecting other workers including being blacklisting from their own unions.

Is blacklisting still a significant issue?

VitoCorleoneOfMNMafia · 10/09/2023 21:06

Why is this in FWR? Surely Politics would be a better fit?

I'm contrasting this with the lack of concern about GC workers being sacked and denied work eg Glinner.

If they are serious about workers being blacklisted they should be looking at the whole situation with freedom of speech and thought.

It's ironic that Trade Unions have also been bullying GC members.

Union organisation is so weak now that bosses mostly don't need to blacklist.

Ironically enough if they wanted to get rid of an activist now they'd just need to accuse them of being a transphobe and the union bureaucracy would support sacking them.

Unbelievable that the unions have given such a massive hostage to fortune to the employers' side, by making it acceptable to victimise workers for their political beliefs.

I would also contrast it with the secret blacklist put together by Labour Party luminaries such as Wes Streeting, Lily Madigan and ANGELA RAYNER, in order to expel members who hold GC views and blacklist them from rejoining.
