The “journalist” who wrote this piece is probably paid more than the hotel employee that he's trying to get sacked. Absolutely shameful.

I think it's the performer, Dev Mistry, who's trying to get the employee fired. Dev Mistry seems to be the embodiment of the elusive "Karen" that MRAs on AIBU are always insisting isn't just a non-doormat woman but a crusader against the working class.

(I admit, though, I did a double-take when an message appeared on the site asking if I want "try MEN Premium for free". )

BreadInCaptivity · 01/09/2023 03:41

Petulant tosser seeking to elevate himself at other people's expense.

As a WOMAN (you know, those adult human female "things") I've spent years "overhearing" shite about females and having to deal with it.

Moreover, I've had a many vile comments directed at me personally simply because I have XX chromosomes.

Nothing I've said or done, just your regular open season misogyny. From "blonde jokes" to comments about my appearance, clothes, profession (I must be shit as it's a male dominated industry) etc.

I don't spend my life trying to get people sacked.

These people are just nasty bullies.

Literally waiting to find something to take offence at and so bloody gleeful when their efforts are rewarded.

Since then, Dev says he contacted the hotel's head office. They said the hotel has ‘launched an HR investigation’ and ‘agreed they needed more formal training around LGBTQ+ issues.’

Or more likely Dev DEMANDED that they have more formal training and the hotel nodded along making the right noises hoping he would just fuck off

Edited

I hope and trust that they’ve launched their investigation right into the bin.

Mind you, he/him/his called he/him/his chief operating officer ‘hun’ at work and apparently that was just sooo wonderful and liberating.

FFS. How do these people even function in real life.

https://www.iq-mag.net/2023/07/lgbtiq-list-2023-dev-mistry-dice/

"Hun"?

At best, that's sexist and unprofessional.

At worst, well, I'd not use that word in Glasgow. "Football fan" isn't a protected characteristic but I'm daydreaming of sending him a ticket and imagining how he'd defend his word choice in his red feather goonie at Ibrox.

He's protected his tweets now, but the hyperbole over how he had to write this article because the incident was so shocking and how were queer people to feel safe at this hotel? Was quite something.

Faffertea · 01/09/2023 12:58

So another bloke who identifies as “queer” and likes to dress up in lingerie who’s a cry bully.

These people need to experience the real world and see what oppression actually is. What struggling actually is. Try having a disability, child with MH or neurodiversity or additional needs at school. See what it’s like deciding whether to heat your house or feed your kids. Try working in the NHS, social services or education system where there’s no money to even cover the basics anymore and there’s fuck all you can do about it other than empathise.

These pricks are the epitome of privilege.

So tired of this shit now.

😁 Exactly.

If we invent a cure for Mommy issues and narcissism, the entire TRA movement will turn to dust faster than a vampire staked by Buffy.

RoyalCorgi · 01/09/2023 13:15

He'd have been very at home in East Germany.

"Important'"

He said what now ?

"Both Dev and Ethan have locked down their accounts. It's almost as if they don't want people reporting them for their private conversations"

But but

he’s got to generate content

if we accept that he’s a creativity free space only capable of spouting received opinions he can neither justify nor explain, how is he expected to do that without grubbing around for transgressors to throw to the firing squad?

you are all being very unfair

Sauce for the goose is NEVER sauce for the gander, is it?

OnAPostItNote · 01/09/2023 16:56

Manchester evening news. Shame on you.

StephanieSuperpowers · 01/09/2023 17:03

I wonder if they've ever genuinely changed someone's mind by harassing them in this way?

Rudderneck · 01/09/2023 17:31

One of the things that really brought home to me, years ago, about how bad all this was, is a similar scenario. A person I knew who worked at a university on a contract was overheard by a student, having a private conversation, at a restaurant. Off campus.

The student didn't like what he heard, brought it to the university, and with the help of certain staff escalated it to the board of governors. The individual did not have his contract renewed because of this.

The controversial statement was basically, wow, this gender stuff is crazy.

FroodwithaKaren · 01/09/2023 17:36

You may not speak your heresy in a public place. Burn the heretic. Yada yada.

Mind you, Starmer makes for a crap substitute for Cromwell.

PaperWalkAndTalk · 01/09/2023 17:46

My response to him would be "you've heard what I've had to say, now you've got to learn how you're going to have to live with it".

Wetandhorrible · 01/09/2023 17:48

Not meaning to derail, but think it's relevant given the specifics of this case: I've been listening, and reading, a lot on the French Revolution's reign of terror (interesting period, and I'm bit ignorant about the details): two interesting things hit me. Firstly, one of the (female) professors (on the BBC's In Our Time on iPlayer) stated that the revolution movement got more misogynistic the more extreme left it got. And secondly, the shakers and movers were over whelming 25-30, and Danton and Robespierre were"old man" : 36 when Robespierre fell. It's kinda been comforting to know that sexist madness fuelled by youthful certainty has come and gone before.

FroodwithaKaren · 01/09/2023 18:43

Worth noting too the historical detail that in WW2 the Reich intentionally recruited their youngest troops, particularly 16-25 year olds, into the units that committed the very worst atrocities and massacres. This being because it was easy to fire up naive youngsters with a lot of well sold bullshit, they were easier to manipulate and control, and didn't have things like so much life experience, critical thinking or maturity to get in the way of them being useful tools to the agenda.

SammyScrounge · 01/09/2023 19:58

TheGreatATuin · 31/08/2023 19:12

Wow. So he eavesdropped on a private conversation by someone working in a service position, complained to their management, got a forced apology, wasn't happy with an apology so got head office involved to presumably try get them fired, and contacted the media to put additional pressure on just as a cherry on top.
This is what privilege looks like, not oppression

It is obvious that he intends to punish these two employees - it is the trans nature to enjoy exerting power over the masses who are not trans. But how can he get them sacked when they expressed an opinion which happens to be true and is furthermore a protected belief?

TheGreatATuin · 01/09/2023 20:41

StephanieSuperpowers · 01/09/2023 17:03

I wonder if they've ever genuinely changed someone's mind by harassing them in this way?

I don't think it's ever about changing minds. It's about exerting power. It's a 'this is what happens if you oppose my rules'.

TeenEyeroll · 01/09/2023 21:08

He is trying to send out a message that the thought police are everywhere and it is not safe to speak the truth out loud.

TeenEyeroll · 01/09/2023 21:08

He is trying to send out a message that the thought police are everywhere and it is not safe to speak the truth out loud.

There is something quite stasi-like about this bloke sitting around in his headphones scanning for conversations around him he doesn't like.

What's worse here is the constant repetition of the word 'alleged' shows there's no proof - and this kind of self-righteous young Reach reporter will never go looking for any once they've done their 'important' story - it actually doesn't matter one jot to Dev or Ethan whether this is complete fiction. They're the good guess

As for 'won't somebody think of the Pride-accredited media hub', Lord, give us all strength.

Brewdug · 01/09/2023 21:38

Good guys not guess!
