British Rowing - Imminent Announcement?

SabrinaThwaite · 02/08/2023 20:51

The Telegraph is reporting that British Rowing to ban transgender athletes from women's events after members urge policy change in a policy announcement expected tomorrow.

… the governing body has decided to follow the majority view of its 31,500 members, more than 80 per cent of whom are understood to have urged a change in approach that would ensure the fairness and integrity of the female category.

… under the revised rules, these events are to be protected exclusively for rowers who are biologically female.

Rowing is the last of the big Olympic sports in the UK to have been sitting on the fence about allowing males in the women’s category.

Fingers crossed that this happens.

You can put the following link into an archive service to read it.

Alex Storey rightfully pointed out it’s an irritating waste of time to have to debate obvious things like men invading sport is unfair because people like Tatchell chat shit. He’s completely right. It’s a fucking joke. Why shouldn’t we be pissed off? The entitlement!

Buffypaws · 04/08/2023 07:19

Women have been absolutely fucked over here. Stolen from, assaulted, humiliated. Just in the sport issue.

DontYouThreatenMeWithADeadFish · 04/08/2023 07:23

As for IW banging on about no transwomen dominating rowing, they've still taken the place of an actual woman, who then misses out on an opportunity to be part of an elite club for life.

The uber filtered twat is so utterly disingenuous. It is astonishing that there people out there still trying to argue that there is no meaningful physiological difference between men and women. I guess women so far have just not been trying hard enough.

WallaceinAnderland · 04/08/2023 14:44

TRAs are now spluttering that men have a human right to compete in women's sports if they say the magic words 'I am a woman'.

Also IW is putting black women in the same category as transwomen again!

Is there a Twitter link by any chance? I'd like to take a peek and see what's being said. It sounds like it must be bonkers.

GailBlancheViola · 04/08/2023 15:01

BonfireLady dancing around this issue and trying not to offend is one of the reasons we are in the mess we are in. I scream every time the first thing out of someone's mouth is about poor trans, human rights, live their lives, not all like that, yada, yada, yada followed by a BUT.

Stop being so craven and starting everything with an apology, be blunt, stick to facts which if that had been done years ago and transwomen who wanted to compete in female sport, take everything from women, were told bluntly and clearly NO, we wouldn't be where we are with Sports Bodies having to put out 'new' rules which even then use stupid language like AFAB and are full to the brim of stuff like we want everyone including trans people to feel welcomed in our sport, we don't want to upset anyone, etc., etc..

It's high time it was clearly spelled out exactly what is what and what a fucking waste of everybody's time this has all been when it is as plain as plain could be what should have happened the very first time this inclusion was mooted.

I kind of agree but equally, the way that the message is delivered can make the messenger the issue rather than the subject itself. I now see Alex Storey as an arrogant rude man who knows his biology. Piers Morgan is in this category for me too.

On a different note, I found India's message with a quick Google. Yep, as bonkers as I expected.

MrsMitford3 · 04/08/2023 15:32

Sadly (not) IW has blocked me on twitter-despite me never interacting with her so I can't share a link.

When you only have ppl with the exact same opinion on your twitter feed then you always win!!

BonfireLady · 04/08/2023 15:38

No worries, I found it on Google. I suspect India is about to block me too. I just used my shiny new account to add a comment:

https://twitter.com/IndiaWilloughby/status/1687056911114391553?t=rRaPXIc_rLNb4VQ8LNhobg&s=19

TBH it won't be any loss if India does block me. I'm only on Twitter to see what unfolds in the press regarding children being harmed now that Andrew Neil has joined. I won't be keeping my account longer term anyway.

You are finding it jarring because it is a recent phenomenon, if it had been the default as it should damn well have been you wouldn't.

It is time to stop apologising for and to, stop trying to appease or not hurt feelings of men who think they are or want to be woman, they are not and never will be.

So much time, effort and money has been wasted when as Alex Storey rightly says wouldn't have been if honesty and integrity had been the default.

SabrinaThwaite · 04/08/2023 16:29

Watching IW taking on Tonia Antoniazzi over women’s sport quite amusing.

Remind me again, which one is known for winning caps representing Wales in women’s rugby and which one is known for shouting at women on CBB?

IW has made quite the turnaround I remember IW on that morning ITV programme being very much against TW in female sport.

SabrinaThwaite · 04/08/2023 21:09

IW has likely realised that if IW wants to keep claiming that IW is an Adult Human Biological Female (Hmm) then IW has to demand TW in women’s sport.

Hockey and football still do not restrict the female catergory to biological women...

SabrinaThwaite · 05/08/2023 05:03

England Hockey put out a statement last month that it is reviewing its policy and aims to issue a new policy by August 2024.

@SabrinaThwaite I saw that... they don't seem in a great rush and are pretty insistent that inclusion is the key words rather than fairness when I have comunicated with them. Also, the guidance from the Sports Councils of the UK came out in September 2021.. 3 years is a long time to review.. especially with the Olympics next year... I struggle to see why they are not more proactive on this, especially with the impressive history of the women's team, a strong background in mixed hockey and the fact that hockey is one of the sports where women have had a very strong voice for a long time.

ChateauMargaux · 05/08/2023 07:40

Sorry.. don't know why that was bold..

borntobequiet · 05/08/2023 07:41

Dear God, I played for a while in a mixed hockey team and it only worked because the men were careful and the women risk averse. Even so, there were a couple of dangerous moments.

SabrinaThwaite · 05/08/2023 07:58

@ChateauMargaux Hopefully, with World Swimming, World Rugby, World Athletics, UCI, British Tri and now British Rowing all coming down firmly on the side of fairness for women they’ll see exactly which way the wind is blowing and pull their finger out.

The Hilton and Lundberg paper really demonstrated the male advantage in sports needing upper body strength and explosive power - see the effect on the hockey drag flick!

You would think they might.... but seem in no rush. I have pointed all of these out!!

Football do not seem to be making any moves .. their record is less strong when it comes to support of women.

Theeyeballsinthesky · 05/08/2023 08:31

Hockey is extremely captured. Remember the shenanigans at swim England that started a lot of this nonsense about TW being allowed in women’s sports who then went to sport england and tried to do the same? Person pushing that was a hockey umpire

CouldNotResist · 05/08/2023 08:56

I dislike the use of ‘men in wigs’. Paris Lees has such lovely hair they got to star in the Pantene shampoo commercials.

Seriously, Alex Storey just sounded majorly pissed off about having to discuss the issue on his holidays (in a graveyard by the looks of it?) I’m impressed by his being 6ft 8 and his daughters being 5ft 10. I’d have thought being extra tall wouldn’t be the advantage you’d think it was in rowing - how do they fit such tall people in those tiny boats?!!

I wonder who the weak transwoman footballer is that Peter knows? And how does he know they’re weaker than all the other female footballers in the team - have they had arm-wrestling competitions?

Oh yes, with the strap line “be all the woman you can be”.

Fuck right off with that. That was my mountain scaling moment.

Have you seen this?

Female Coaches For Girls

Barclays believe in creating opportunities for all through access to football. Through the Barclays Community Football Fund, we want to grow participation in football at every level.

But despite a huge increase in demand for girls’ football, in England, only 5% of FA-qualified coaches are women, meaning those girls playing lack representation and female role models.

Increasing the number of high-quality female coaches in the girls’ game is crucial to improve standards, and to show girls they can be involved in football in lots of different ways.

Then scroll down to the requirements to apply for funding:

To be eligible for funding, the coaches you put forward must meet the following criteria:

  • Identify as female
