Snag tights

I turned a blind eye to their porny pictures and men in tights, but when they are sending out marketing materials glorifying double mastectomies and crumbling bones, I’m out.

I never rated their chub rub shorts anyway - sloggi long leg knickers for me

Nobody on here objected to the crutch, @StarchySturgess1. Don't be goady.

And it's not the sexy clothes in bigger sizes that's the issue, it's the objectification of women as sex objects. Whether bigger or smaller. It's offensive, not empowering.

And yes, the dark skinned person is actually drawn to look like blackface. Really bad.

Though I see pecs and nipples- flimsy girl clothing - rather than scars.

That said, do the others have nipples?

pickledandpuzzled · 15/07/2023 09:21

The more I look at the one with a crutch, the more I think they're male. The hip line above the shorts- that make pattern muscularity I think.

Perhaps it's just a shit artist?

BernardBlacksMolluscs · 15/07/2023 09:26

Ah man

their tights are really good

why do companies do this? The current environment where you have to sell a brand causes no end of trouble

how I wish companies could just make and sell good products without having to sell themselves

I think the colours of the tights give a clue as to their identities.

Snag are the only tights I've found that fit me.

I've moved from snag to better tights and I love them. Also a bit cheaper for the basic colours last time I checked.

I haven't tried them because they don't have the different lengths, which is what I need. I might order a couple of pairs though and see.

namechanger563 · 15/07/2023 10:36

I'm 5'6 and a size 18. I get their size Cinque. I got size E in snag. They both fit the same for me. I've got enough room to pull them right up to just under my bra and I'm pretty sure they could easily accommodate someone about 6' tall.

MillicentTrilbyHiggins · 15/07/2023 10:47

I'm 5ft1 with weirdly short legs. "Normal" tights are too long. I need the short ones that Snag make.

SirSamVimesCityWatch · 15/07/2023 11:12

It's the idea that snag tights are amazing and different and actually fit women's bodies really well, AND YET also fit transwomen's bodies really well.

My waist / hip / arse / thigh measurements and ratios are so so so far removed from a male body that I can't believe that to be true.

Either they won't fit me, so they are lying, or they won't fit tw, so they are lying, or they don't actually fit either particularly brilliantly, so they are lying.

All in all, it makes my trust in the brand precisely zero.

UndercoverCop · 15/07/2023 11:17

Their tights are also shit, they snag more than cheapo Primark ones , they even sent new ones recognising how quickly they had holes in, they did exactly the same!
So it's not a good product and the marketing is just bizarre

Toddlerteaplease · 15/07/2023 11:23

It's the morbidly obese models that get me. You wouldn't put an anorexic model on anymore.

Yes I also dislike this. Body positivity is fine, we shouldn't just have six 4/6 models. But nor should we have models who are morbidly obese - for exactly the same reason we shouldn't have size 0, both are body types which are incredibly unhealthy and life shortening.

StarchySturgess1 · 15/07/2023 06:49

What a strange issue to have.

You're clearly not aware that harnesses are fashionable at the minute and fairly difficult to get in sizes for bigger bodies? Snag are meeting that gap in the market.

I don't understand why you have a problem with fake garter tights. You're not being forced to wear or buy them? Are you going into H&M and complaining about their corset tops?

Don't like it? Don't buy it, but I fail to see the appeal in coming on here and complaining about why products exist, claiming a pair of tights is "porn adjacent" (biggest load of nonsense I've ever heard) and waffling on about how incensed you are that they've put a leaflet in an order that's got a person on crutches on it.

Grow up, good lord 🙄

This makes no sense. Harnesses are fashionable? Yet this somehow isn’t porn-adjacent? Yeah, right. What a load of old porn-apologist bollocks.

wherearethewindows · 15/07/2023 13:35

But their target market ARE people who are morbidly obsess (I'm only pounds away from it myself) why on earth wouldn't they show that?

What do you suggest- that fat people don't wear clothes so as not to promote it?

Exactly. Wasn't that originally theirs usp? That they catered to larger sizes.

myveryownelectrickitten · 15/07/2023 13:50

Big difference between catering to larger sizes and fetishwear, “harnesses”, no? I mean, Boden cater to thin yummy mummies, but you don’t see their catalogue looking like Ann Summers. And Bravissimo seem to have managed to sell bras and pants for bigger sizes for years without going large on the crotchless knickers and bdsm-lite.

SirSamVimesCityWatch · 15/07/2023 13:53

I thought their USP was that they had tights in a whole load of sizes (inc. for different heights), not just for the obese?

Apologies if I'm wrong.

CurseYouPerryThePlatypus · 15/07/2023 14:13

I looked at the snag website to see what the harness was.
Also noted one of the items (tights I think) has the colour name “suffragette purple” 🤣

wherearethewindows · 15/07/2023 14:13

I dunno - I happen to like some of the more sexual stuff. It's not easy to find such outfits when you are big. I'm not sure where you draw the line with what's ok. Some women are sexual, some fat women are sexual, some fat women like to be dressed in a bondage style. There's just something sitting uncomfortably here for me that there isn't an equal post slating Ann Summers for selling sexual clothes to slimmer women.

storminamooncup · 15/07/2023 14:14

IIRC they did have some pictures of men in tights. As in bearded men, not transwomen. It looked ridiculous.

Perhaps the reason their good products (the black leggings) have not been in stock for ages is because they prefer to cater to the larger woman fetish market.

I don’t get Ann Summers ads for fetish harnesses all over my Facebook page or when browsing MN, though. If I did I’d be complaining about them too.

It's the fact that you can't buy an every day, usually unsexualised product like tights via their website, without being confronted by dozens of upskirting images, that is weird. Ironically, the photos they use for actual underwear are a lot less sexualised - those feature a range of sizes, but without the upskirting and the porny angles they use for tights.

SirSamVimesCityWatch · 15/07/2023 09:13

Maybe they are just saying that people with joint/bone issues can wear their tights as much as anyone else can!

Err... Why would someone with bone or joint issues possibly think think they couldn't wear tights as much as anyone else?

How utterly bizarre.

The OP was criticising the fact the had someone ‘with crumbling bones’ on the advert.

storminamooncup · 16/07/2023 07:24

Yeah 'crumbling bones' wasn't okay and very disablist

MaryBeardsShoes · 16/07/2023 07:42

I’ve found their “chub rub” shorts to be ok, but I don’t actually get “chub rub” so maybe that’s why? I just like under a dress to feel a little less vulnerable in a way. Although they weren’t very well made 😆

But I totally agree regarding their constant porny ads. I muted/blocked them a while ago on social media. So many people want to scream about consent whilst also trampling other people’s boundaries.

Personally I'd never go to Ann Summers or look on their website because they are a sex shop, and I'm not remotely interested in what they consider "sexy". They don't advertise as anything else.

Snag tights come up as advertising hard wearing good quality colourful tights. No-one's expecting the level of sexualised imagery from that start. Hence the criticism.
