First Direct and Natwest closing bank accounts for political reasons inc being gender critical

Apprently First Direct have closed the account of the Wings over Scotland founder for his beliefs (He's Gender Critical), and Coutts, owned by Natwest, closed Nigel Farage's account.
Whatever you think of Nigel Farage he is entitled to a bank account.

This is really worrying.

I bank with First Direct. I am gender critical. Do I need to hide my beliefs to keep my bank account? Will tey stop me getting access to my money?

Mr Farage has not named the bank who plan to shut his personal and business accounts this summer, but is understood to be Coutts, the famous 327-year-old private bank whose clients include the Royal Family.

No. I'm arguing that a group of seperate incidents, with the reasons given mostly disputed, have been pulled together by a collection of notorious right wing grifters to whip up enough outrage to allow the government to remove the obligation of the Banks to oversee the dodgy funding of PEPs.

Over a million adults in the UK don't have a single bank account. That's a problem.

Farage has several, the high value account at Coutts was closed because it didn't meet their wealth threshold, according to the bank.

Don't be daft. I could equally say Goebbels would have been proud of this alt-right media flurry, but I won't. You seriously think banks want to have to check PEPs or they're concerned about a million people in the UK that don't use their services?

I'm not picking sides, just not succumbing to quite obvious manipulation.

In you spare time, you could take a look at Orwell's "1984". It's out of copyright, so easy to download for free. Yes, it's just a silly book, pure fiction. Still there's an interesting passage about a rousing speech by a Party official (of the one and only Party ruling Oceania) against the mortal enemy Eurasia turning effortlessly into an equally rousing speech against Eastasia mid sentence.

Interesting that even Sky News lazily accepts the MRAs' framing of 'TERF' as synonymous with 'Conservative'.

We're talking about a movement that directs hatred disproportionately at women and specifically towards radical feminists, and that has widespread mega-corporation backing - companies that freely use the violent misogynistic slur "TERF" - and they get to tell everyone that it's women fighting for their rights that are 'conservative'?!

Where does it stop, logically? No health treatment if you don't hold politically correct ideas?
Fortunately, most people don't advertise their beliefs, but for those who do, it's a very uneasy precedent.

good to know🙂- i probably haven't watched Sky News since it was a Murdoch channel, but the particular programme seemed to be taking the side of feminists?

Judging by the web page Sky news looks like the usual mix of celebrity and consumer "news", personality politics, and a massive blind spot for anything happening in Africa, Asia, or South America. Compatible with identity politics and free market economics, which I think of as pretty right-wing...
