Well, we've been trying. In 2020, WDI USA drafted the Equality for All Act, which "would prohibit discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation and nonconformity to sex-based stereotypes, while maintaining the existing sex-based protections for women and girls."
Women have been lobbying Congress to introduce it since then.
However, the Democratic Party is fully on board with the so-called "Equality Act," which would redefine sex discrimination provisions across federal law and policy as including sexual orientation and gender identity.
In other words, women would lose any female-specific protections because if sex = gender id, male people claiming womanhood would now be defined as being "discriminated against" when others say they do not belong in female spaces, opportunities, etc.
It's a woman-hating shambles of an act which has already passed the House but seemed to have died in the Senate. However, Joe Biden seems to be starting a new push to get it passed if he can, and the ACLU and other organizations advocating for it have literally hundreds of millions of dollars to spend while women scrape our pennies together...
