Target strikes again - girls' swimsuits for boys

Retail brand sparks fury with woke ‘tuck-friendly’ childrenswear - ‘They need psychological help!’ (msn.com)

Girls' swimsuits with extra material to tuck in at the sides and extra material in the crotch - to disguise a penis.

I'm glad the reaction has been fury. Men claiming to be women is appalling. Boys saying they want to be girls is worse, if the woke parents go along with it from a young age. It's going to result in some very messed up people further down the line.

Can't visit MSN because my phone says the site is insecure and gives invalid credentials.

I am in favour of more gender-neutral swimwear, especially for kids - it seems odd to me that boys are expected to only swim in basically pants, and that girls are expected to conform to a very narrow range of possible swimwear styles too, and if someone wants to cover up a bit more but has a willy then yes they need to be able to tuck that away safely. I suspect from the URL that I can't follow that these items aren't gender neutral though are they?

Tucking is harmful and is the first stage towards gender-affirming penectomy.

Bullshit nonstory. The swimsuits labelled in this way are solely in the adult range, not children's, as has been confirmed by Target and independent fact-checkers.

Clothes are clothes. Adults and children can wear what they like.

The wrong bit here is telling boys that they must be trans or gay because they want to wear a swimming costume - this is effectively what the Pride branding does with its messaging. Otherwise all swimming costumes would come with this feature.

I have no issue with an adult Pride section (viewable online under women's and men's clothes), with tuckable pouches on swimming costumes. But targeting this branding at children is wrong.

Anyone can wear any clothes. It shouldn't need to signify anything. Children are too young to have or understand a fixed sexual orientation or a "gender identity" (the exception being a very rare few who have gender dysphoria from a young age - a sense that they are stuck in the wrong body - and who need psychotherapy to explore this), so asking them to declare either or both of these under Pride branding is wholly inappropriate.

Ah. Just saw this.

If that's been debunked I'll stop shouting and my above comment can be ignored 😁

Children are too young to have or understand a fixed sexual orientation

It's worth me explaining what I meant by this bit though as it's potentially ambiguous:

Children don't have feelings of sexual desire. They can experience physical sensations (rubbing up against something - I've seen some hilarious toddler moves) and also crushes. Many children have non-sexual crushes on men and women. Many start to have sexual feelings for men or women. Looking back from adulthood a pattern from early childhood regarding sexual orientation could be clear. However, during childhood nothing is "fixed". That's one of the many amazing things about childhood (Hopefully there are lots of children who grow up in supportive homes where their sexual orientation is simply a part of who they are. I'd feel no differently about my children whether they are gay or straight).

My (OP) apologies. The headline said adults but the story was all about children.

In truth I don't feel massively better about them being sold for adults.
