This is really sad. The fact there's someone in such an influential position who doesn't seem informed or to care about doing the whole of their job is so sad because it has real effects on people. And we'd come so far with LGB rights, too. It really feels like we are going very far backwards.

Wasn't he involved in writing the Yogyakarta Principles? If so, he understands precisely what all this is about.

Thanks for the thread. I, for one, am shocked and stunned that a trans rights activist is dishonest and refuses to engage with serious issues or denounce outright homophobia.

I'm baffled as to what makes this man an expert?

He was living in Costa Rica and being paid by UN grants for legal advisory work on the prevention of prison torture immediately up until he was given this job when that money ran out six years ago.

He's clueless on this.

What an ignorant man! What makes it worse is it's willful ignorance. He knows what his job is, I'm sure he's paid enough for it.

SOGI is a disaster, it's forced teaming in the same way as LGBT.

Having watched one of his evidence sessions to the Scottish parliament I am not at all surprised to read these minutes.

Having watched his appearance at the Scottish Gmt committee meeting I’m not surprised by his responses.

Given this is a UN appointment what is his legal position e.g. could he be held to account for any harm done by his “independent” reports as an “UN expert”? We all know there are going to be legal cases from people left sterile, disabled, mutilated etc. by surgery and medication. Is there a process by which he can be held to account or does he produce reports, take the money and move onto his next role?

I saw something about the meeting with VMB somewhere else - maybe Glinner posted something? Interesting and shocking, but not surprising, to see LGBA's notes. VMB's response should be interesting...
