I hope the above link will work; I didn't see a thread in either this topic or Craicnet.

For those not in Ireland, Liveline is a phone-in radio show on each weekday in on RTE Radio 1, the national broadcaster that runs the gamut of topics of importance and significance to the batshit crazy!

There have been important programmes on the menopause for example, which directly resulted in the Irish medical system finally properly training GPs in menopause matters & prescribing HRT much more easily.

Previous discussions on trans / sex-based matters have been swiftly shut down - this is the only place on RTE that these matters are even considered. Over several days there has been discussion with some notable effective articulate contributors, in particular Brian, father of a lesbian teenager, who was clear and backed up his points with facts.

It's so hard to get coverage on these matters on most MSM platforms in Ireland, so to at least have this debate is really important and providing some sense of light coming through.

Have there been episodes this week dealing with that topic, Earrings?

I ask because I remember Joe having a few shows on the topic last year (RTÉ seem to have avoided the topic since) and I seem to remember a father ringing in on behalf of his lesbian daughter to give her experience of the issue. It was a very interesting series of discussions.

Yes, I think on 3 separate days (2 last week, then yesterday).

There was a lot of reasonable calmly stated points, particularly from the GC perspective, but tbf, the parent of a trans child was also polite & considered (even though I couldn't agree with their POV).

It's really notable as this is the only coverage on RTE & at least some GC voices are being heard.

I don't think you're right @EarringsandLipstick ? It seems to be covering other subjects?

Oh no! I've just checked that. Even tho I linked to the exact episode & section on this topic, I see it's linking to the podcast page which has only certain extracts - none of them the gender identity episode.

On the website, they predictably haven't included it as a clip.

I'll see if I can link to the full show, and provide the timings.

I'm now wondering if I listened to an older episode as PP said, although it's definitely dated 04 May 2023 on the podcast app.

Sorry for confusing ... will see if I can sort!!

So I've realised it was an error on the RTE Liveline podcast.

For some reason they uploaded the link to the show airing discussions that took place last year (and which led to the accusations of transphobia & Dublin Pride withdrawing support, discussion in Dail etc).

Utopia, you are correct that you thought you heard it before!

Here's (an unbalanced) article on the show

Joe Duffy sounds wounded after Liveline’s transgender discussion. Selflessness or a self-inflicted injury?

I was wondering why there appeared to be no coverage of the discussion on Twitter or elsewhere.

I think it's definitely an error - as the link on the Liveline website to that show is no longer working.

I was glad to have got to listen though - I'd missed that episode in the discussions last year. I was surprised it appeared to be being discussed again after all the furore. So my feelings of positivity were unfortunately misplaced. 😔

It really is so frustrating how RTÉ (and Irish media in general) refuse to tackle this subject in any meaningful way. Apparently, there’s only one mode of belief allowed - it’s just like the old days when the Catholic Church’s position was the only official mode of belief allowed or promoted.

Glad that you found the Liveline episodes, Earrings, I’m surprised RTÉ hasn’t deleted them and buried the recordings in a lead-lined box at the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean, they certainly overreacted in every other possible way when the episodes first aired and were disparaged by the great and good 🙄🙄

I know @UtopiaPlanitia I think they made a mistake uploading this one to the podcast (as the weblink has been deleted) & fully expect they'll delete this too, when they realise.
