Article in The Critic well worth reading

Running like a girl | Victoria Smith | The Critic Magazine

Recently a friend shared an unpleasant experience she’d had while on a run. As she passed by a group of young men, one started running alongside her, imitating her supposedly “girly” movements while…

Someone needs to send this to Kirsty Allsop. She doesn’t have a problem with Dylan. She could do with opening her eyes a bit.

NurseCranesRolodex · 14/04/2023 12:46

Kirsty doesn't have a problem with this man because Kirsty also profiteers from pushing sexist, outdated bullshit based on happy women, wearing floral aprons in a mish mash sprawling weekend farmhouse, quilting, feathering and cake decorating for fun.

Also Allsop has to be a major bekinder.

And by doing so, Kirsty is demonstrating that she does not in the slightest believe that a male person turns into a female one: just that she gets to virtue signal how lovely and sweet she is by patting a male person on the head and patronising them.

She doesn't treat women like that.

Great article spot on. Thanks for sharing.

Allsop has serious problems with thinking, logic and fairness. In the past few years she has said young people could buy homes if they quit coffee and netflix and some nonsense about parents who don't want to spend hours making 'fun' world book day costumes are not fit to be parents. She is a clueless imbecile of the Katie Hopkins school of idiot and does not deserve a iota of respect.

lifeturnsonadime · 14/04/2023 13:45

I think this is an excellent article.

I remember the criticism that Chloe Kelly was subjected to after taking her top off. Disgraceful.

The whole sport thing IS disgraceful. My daughter is part of a county cricket squad, those girls wear sports bras, it's dreadful that Nike have picked Mulvany to represent their sports bra. It's taking the piss out of the girls who wear them. I won't forget this.

WinterTrees · 14/04/2023 13:51

It's a great article, thanks for sharing.

I also clicked the link to the DM article about the video and was pleased to discover that UB40 singer Matt Hoy has tweeted his support of women. Nice to have some balance to the odious Bragg.

Surprised at Kirsty Allsopp. She's fairly unpleasant, but I thought she prided herself on Speaking (what she sees as) The Unpopular Truth. I didn't have her down as an appeaser.

To be fair Katie Hopkins has a brain injury that I think is obvious leads to personality/opinion problems. I know she’s had a brain surgeries. Doesn’t mean her opinions are to be excused but it just puts into context.

Yes, I have some sympathy for Hopkins after I read that she has serious health problems, autistic DC and is the main breadwinner for the household with huge financial pressures. She has made appalling grim statements repeatedly and Allsop follows the same 'shock' tactics to remain in the public eye. Brainless nitwits!

TheirEminence · 14/04/2023 14:27

Victoria Smith is consistently great on any issues affecting women: incisive, clear and really getting to the heart of the matter. She’s also never needlessly cruel.

Of course she’s right, Mulvaney’s shtick is about mocking and humiliating women, and it’s not a victimless crime.

Fantastic article - powerful and very moving:
"Women and girls should not be emotionally excluded from our own bodies. They are our space, our selves; they belong to no one else. Often, it is unsafe for us to say it, let alone feel it. We must grab every chance we can"

DOBARDAN · 14/04/2023 15:28

An excellent article indeed, thanks for the link,
The two photos alone say so much, even without text,
So sick of all the ridicule and mocking of women and girls,
Very depressing, on and on it goes.

LemonJuiceFromConcentrate · 14/04/2023 15:40

Terrific article.

Made me a bit emotional. Once upon a time I really hoped for better things for DD’s generation. 😔

puffyisgood · 14/04/2023 15:54

I wonder whose endorsement deal was worth more, Chloe Kelly or Dylan M.

Windingdown · 14/04/2023 16:15

The Chloe Kelly celebration will stay with me all my days. What women can do!

I bought new trainers today. Picked up a Nike pair, remembered this nonsense and bought another brand instead.

phoneissue · 14/04/2023 16:26

I also bought new trainers. The Nike looked slightly prettier but I went with Adidas instead in the end.

surely Chloe Kelly should have got the Nike sponsorship?!?

GenderCriticalTrumpets · 15/04/2023 23:35

What a great article and really makes me think about my relationship with my body and sport. Especially my brother and step dad taking the piss about me running weirdly and not being able to kick a football.

Xoxoxoxoxoxox · 18/04/2023 07:50

There is a petition on citizengo out there at the moment to boycott Nike
that is gathering signatures at the moment.

I hope that the backlash will make Nike think twice about who actually buys their clothes.

Ritasueandbobtoo9 · 18/04/2023 07:54

My teenage sporty daughter thinks this advert is really insulting to women. Not just a bit insulting, really insulting. There is a huge backlash amongst her friends and they love their Nike pro shorts - not any more though.

SquidwardBound · 18/04/2023 08:13

She doesn't treat women like that.

Thats the thing - and the clue that, for all the loud protesting otherwise, society in general in no way believes TWAW - no one treats women like they treat TW.

Any woman mincing around like mulvey would be ridiculed. A woman would receive a litany of negative comments about the shape and size of her body, the way she choose to make it move, the way she displayed her emotions. But, when, a biological make does it, we are not only told that we must ‘be kind’ but we should be actively celebratory of it all.

If anyone actually believed the rhetoric about TWAW, the reaction would have been mockery and condemnation

EdithStourton · 18/04/2023 08:25

That is an excellent article. Helps me to articulate some very muddled thoughts and generalised outrage.

TheFireflies · 18/04/2023 08:25

This landed hard with me. I haven’t run a step in public since I left school, and tried all I could to avoid it even when I was a child.

When I was six, I was mocked for the way I ran. That was forty years ago and it’s still clear in my mind.

JoyousAsOtters · 18/04/2023 08:46

This article was spot on. I also loved this Hilary Mantel quote, which I hadn’t heard before:
that “it ought to possible to live and thrive, without conforming, complying, giving in, but also without imitating a man”

that sums up for me the sadness I feel about so many girls identifying as men
