I found this highly upsetting so fair warning.

This man is incredibly brave to say all this.

I'm 10 minutes in, where he talks about how different doctors (in the US) have different 'dilation schedules', and how the surgery has been going for many years and yet there are no agreed standards. It's powerful stuff.

BonfireLady · 29/03/2023 12:46

Wow. What an incredibly powerful interview, covering and bringing together so many aspects of this whole topic.
What a brave person to step up and share this story. I've listened to quite a few detransitioners talk now, all of whom are brave for doing so, and this one somehow stands out. The clear messages of concern and the insights in to so many facets of it all are phenomenal. A sad and brave story. I hope he finds sharing it cathartic in some way, knowing that doing so must be helping others. I hope lots of people with different viewpoints on this whole topic are listening.

He comes across very well. A really good explanation of what has happened to him and how it happened.

WhoDatWhoDere · 29/03/2023 13:30

I think the most horrifying thing was the way he said some men transition, remove their penis, then try to transition back to manhood with a fake penis construction. I can't imagine how traumatised these people must be.

I feel there are alot of men who are using the trans movement to fetishise themselves, but there are seriously mentally ill people out there that are being encouraged to mutilate themselves into a happiness that never arrives.

It's heartbreaking.

I nearly teared up myself. I wish all the best for the guy. It was interesting when he said his dysphoria/anxiety was worse after transition. He seemed to enjoy being gender nonconforming but that was replaced with worry about not passing. From what I could see he'd pass quite well much of the time. It must be awful for the vast, vast majority of tw.

That whole soft white underbelly looks like a fascinating rabbit hole. Although the words being deleted was irritating.

User534 · 29/03/2023 13:47

Did you notice he used the phrase "self deletion" instead of "suicide"?

SweetCoriander · 29/03/2023 13:54

It was really moving hearing him talk about the homophobia he experienced in his youth. He 'wasn't a real man', therefore he must be ... what? What did that make him? The US surgeons were happy to slash an incorrect answer into his body.

From Eastern Europe Muslim families like his, to players within Mermaids UK, there is dreadful, appalling homophobia at the heart of extreme gender ideology.

IcakethereforeIam · 29/03/2023 14:00

I think people are sensitive about using the word 'suicide', it'll get stuff reported and taken down. Unless you're using it to blackmail worried parents into transing their kids. In that case, fill your boots.

MagicClawHasNoChildren · 29/03/2023 14:16

He articulates all of my issues with trans ideology so beautifully. I feel painfully sorry for him and wish him all the very best.

And also interesting that his homophobic family were happy for him to transition as he appeared more 'normal' in a hetero appearing relationship, but it's still firmly under the 'Rainbow umbrella'

Surely cutting off your genitals is more problematic than simply being gay?!

Hi OP, from the comments here this sounds like an interesting video. I don’t suppose there’s a non-Facebook link to the video, is there? No worries if there’s not; I just ask because I don’t have a Facebook account so can’t watch it.

IcakethereforeIam · 29/03/2023 16:59

I don't have Facebook but I was able to watch it on an android tablet.

It's on the Soft White Underbelly YouTube channel Utopia.
Very good channel!

Shape Shifter has his own You Tube channel which is very good. He interviews other men who regret going through the same sugery as him. He comes across very well and I feel desperately sorry for him as I do all detransitioners who have had irreversible surgery.

spiderplantparty · 30/03/2023 11:20

I've just finished watching the video. I felt very sorry for him and hope that he can find some peace. I think he made some valuable points and it was interesting to hear things from his perspective. I think he made the point well that there are often underlying mental health or social issues that should be explored because transition will not necessarily make them any better. I thought he came across well and was someone I could sit down and have a good conversation with.

IcakethereforeIam · 30/03/2023 11:38

Something that occurred to me later after watching this. Obviously I know nothing about Shapeshifter's family other than they are Muslim and were unhappy with him as an effeminate boy. But, if he had been born female, I wonder how they would have felt about 'her' going about dressed as he was. I think he looked amazing, I wish i could be arsed to look half so glamorous. I'm aware Islamic cultures, and individuals, are not a monolith and there are many liberated Muslim women with families who are happy to support them.

Do the gay men forcibly transitioned in Iran get treated as born females do, or is there some sort of liminal space they occupy. Born as one, forced to act as the other but treated as a kind of third?

Redbird87 · 31/03/2023 10:13

I feel awful for SS sometimes, he was a perfect storm of all the problematic behavior leading gay boys into transitioning. He's open about being cluster b and you can see that on his twit timeline, he still posts very risque selfies and attention seeks. That leads to a lot of people writing him off as either a pervert (the outsider perspective) or a crazy person, bc we all know TRA's will weaponize mental illness however they can.

Life's not going to be kind to him as he physically ages, and I hope he finds some modicum of peace before spiraling further into plastic surgery.
