Feminism: Sex & gender discussions

BettyFilous · 24/03/2023 19:21

It’s interesting that “perinatal services” has replaced “maternity services”. In maternity the mother is centred. In perinatal it’s the baby (ie before birth). It’s giving me an uncomfortable Handmaid’s Tale vibe where the woman is subordinated to incubator. Also, it’s inaccurate as the dictionary definition shows - perinatal refers to the weeks immediately before birth. Maternity services care for the mother throughout pregnancy, including the early weeks when she can miscarry or face other complications. A lot oh f this brave new inclusive language is just wrong and offensive.

Additive "inclusive" language subtracts women and mothers
