An excellent piece by Kathleen Stock about the Lesbian Project — and in the Guardian.

Thank you - that's a great article.
The editorship of the observer is much more sympathetic to the realities of womens rights and feminism than the editorship covering the other 6 days of the week. thinngs like this are only ever published on sundays.

purplevipersgrass · 12/03/2023 11:35

Of course, it's Sunday and it's the Observer. It just came with the Guardian's headline attached — so not the miraculous turnaround I imagined.

Everything she writes is true. Lesbians are being drowned within the rainbow soup grouping.

TheBiologyStupid · 12/03/2023 12:12

An excellent piece, she's a brilliantly clear writer.

BadSkiingMum · 12/03/2023 12:22

She has a Substack newsletter that is well worth a look.

MrsOvertonsWindow · 12/03/2023 12:54

Great article from a great woman.

SapphosRock · 12/03/2023 12:55

Just brilliant! So grateful to her and Julie Bindel.

nilsmousehammer · 12/03/2023 13:52

I wish all the best to this project but I still think trying to paint this as a no-blame, lesbians have absolutely unintentionally of course been oh so accidentally slipped to the back of the queue and I'm sure no one meant to do it - well it's all very nice, but it's not the truth is it?

They've been drowned in the soup in the way that drakes drown ducks in duckponds. There's not much nice and whoops no one meant that to happen about it. And yes. I know. If its not mummy picking her battles and being nice and soft voiced no one will listen because no one likes shouty political girls.

But it still makes me want to go and break things.

Now would be a good time for you to collect up any chipped crockery....

And go throw it against a brick wall.

It's well worth the effort required to clean up the mess after.

I recommend shouting loudly whilst you throw!

Well at least she can't claim to being "silenced" any more with all of this UK wide coverage she keeps getting. I do find it interesting that younger lesbians, and lesbians by the traditional meaning of that word, tend not to agree with her outlook. Still, I wish them well. Anyone pushing queer agenda in these troubled times, deserves some respect.

CompleteGinasaur · 12/03/2023 15:30

Agenda is such a loaded word, as is pushing. But even if there was one, it would be lesbian not queer - that's precisely the point.

Shelefttheweb · 12/03/2023 15:44

Anyone pushing back against the queer agenda deserves respect.

CompleteGinasaur · 12/03/2023 15:51

Quite, @Shelefttheweb.

Oh ffs not this again.

How many have you interviewed? Specifically? Where? How? With what means?

Or do you actually mean 'people I know who agree with me'?

I've been de womaned, I've been de lesbianed and right now all those going 'well I know every other female homosexual on the planet and they thing men demanding they do straight sex is lovely and they're so happy to service penises' can just join all the crass Hyacinth Bucket twits going 'well I love ripping my kit off in front of strange men so I don't see why any other woman on the planet should be allowed to say no to men'.

Sick to the back teeth of the homophobia, I really am. The tolerance is only ever for penises.

Well that's perfectly clear.

I'm struggling to express myself in a way that won't encourage deletion since all this makes me a tad miffed, but I shall be glad to explain further if it would help.

Agreed, the homophobia on this thread is astonishing.

CompleteGinasaur · 12/03/2023 17:43

Well, the lesbians had the temerity to stand up and speak for themselves, didn't they? Only to be expected, got to put those uppity bitches back in their box smartish.

And deserves support. Her blog is worth reading.

CoastalHeart · 12/03/2023 18:37

I’d be particularly interested in what sort of research comes of this, I thought it was a rather interesting point to bring up that lesbians tend to be grouped amongst others in research. The only stat I know offhand for lesbians is that we tend to have higher rates of poverty compared to the rest of the alphabet soup.

Very eager to see what comes of this!

AmuseBish · 12/03/2023 19:20

What are "traditional" lesbians and how would one go about ascertaining what they all think? The questions I find myself asking ...

ScrollingLeaves · 12/03/2023 20:51

What is the difference between ‘a younger lesbian’ and ‘one by the traditional meaning of that word’?

In what ways/ for what reasons younger lesbians, and lesbians by the traditional meaning of that word, don’t agree with her?

You have said this without giving meaning to the statement.

purplevipersgrass · 12/03/2023 21:11

Well that's odd, because I'm meeting with other lesbians on Thursday night and one of the things we'll talk about is whether it's appropriate for us to attend the first Lesbian Project event on March 25. We may have a crowdfunder to send a representative. Some of us are older second wavers, but we have several women in their 30s and a 24-year-old. We all seem to be fine with Stock and Bindel and the aims of the LP.
