Hey all,

Am very excited about the Let Women Speak events coming to Ireland in April. I wanted to speak at one of the events. I believe ordinary women can speak and you don't have to be an invited speaker. Can anyone tell me how I can put myself forward to speak and how the event is organised. I've seen a few videos that have a lot of people just hanging around waiting for it to start and as a neurodiverse person what seems obvious to many people would be very confusing for me. Is there a queue I join on the day? Do I have to get there early? Thanks for any help and advice.

I've only attended some of the US events, but if it's helpful for you, those worked like this:

  1. Everyone milling about
  2. Kellie-Jay welcoming everyone
  3. Kellie-Jay handing over the mic to one or two of the local organizers
  4. Kellie-Jay opening up the floor to any woman who raised her hand

You definitely do not need to be invited; just show up!

There was no real queue at the events I attended. It was more of a free-for-all, but with KJK looking out for women who were raising hands or otherwise signaling that they wanted to speak. If she doesn't spot you on the first try, keep trying until she calls on you.

Good luck and brava in advance!

Agree with above! Raise your hand, wave & make sure you’re seen by KJK or other organisers! It’s very informal, no one expects you to have a speech prepared butv you are expected to keep it short so more women can speak! In Glasgow many women only decided to speak when already there! The crowd is very encouraging! Good luck & enjoy!

I'm sure if you let them know when you get there that you struggle with this sort of thing that they'll do what they can to help you.

if you watch the videos it seems to be the same women at most of the events who help KJK, and they're usually wearing hi viz.

I'm sure KJK doesn't want people getting overwhelmed if she can do anything to mitigate that.

Awesome that you are getting prepped. I have been to some, just put your hand up and go and speak. If there is a large crowd, you will have to get to the front obviously, but you should be fine.

And we listen! Even if you are nervous and lose your spot or repeat yourself, we appreciate any woman’s contribution. Even if we don’t agree with it. That is the event.

Despite it being portrayed as Kellie Jay’s event, she really is there to let women speak.

Good luck !

Thanks for the info everyone it's really put my mind at ease. I think I'd be more comfortable approaching an organizer rather than waving at the front but will see how it goes. Thanks again.

Do you have a link with details of the events? I'm in Ireland too and would be interested in going.

If you just walk up to Posie whilst someone else is speaking so she'll know you want to speak. I hope you get a go and enjoy it, definitely plan to have time for the pub afterwards, you'll meet the best people!

Just watched the Sydney feed. Well done you women!! That was bloody awesome !!

And the NSW police seemed to do a great job and kept the protestors back so that women could just get on with it.
