I used to like James Wong back in the day.

Shame.

DanseAvecLesLoup · 21/02/2023 17:28

Sorry, not the best quality photo

The Eye seems to have mostly ignored the gender nonsense stories, which is a shame because if they had covered the Tavi/GIDS scandal, and all of the other gender identity ideology shenanigans, like they did with the blood contamination one they would have done an excellent job.

Still, their occasional coverage of The Grauniad in relation to LOJ has been good. And there's a great review of Hannah Barnes' new book in the most recent edition, too.

DanseAvecLesLoup · 21/02/2023 18:24

They certainly gave coverage of the ousting of Suzanne Moore and Hadley Freemen over their gender critical views.

I am disappointed in James Wong. I used to like him.

SinnerBoy · 21/02/2023 18:28

Is that Grow Your Own Drugs James Wong?

risefromyourgrave · 21/02/2023 18:33

James Wong said that UK gardening is racist for using words like ‘heritage’ and ‘native’. And because some people wanted wildflowers in their planting they were saying that other flowers (and by his extension, people) don’t belong in the UK.

Abra1t · 21/02/2023 18:35

I’m sure PE has had some good cartoons in trans issues! If my memory serves me.

KatMcBundleFace · 21/02/2023 18:37

Ha. Good on the Eye. I've not read mine yet, but like all good "Brexit Voting / Farage / Tate loving" Labour members, I have a subscription.

I'll never know why Owen Jones got to where he is. He's so obnoxious. I guess he's the lefts shock jock.

Do what? Fucking idiot <removes Wong books from Amazon wishlist>

And good on the Eye.

And before I get accused of being right wing by the plopped because I’ve posted a Daily Mail link, it’s the only one I can find that doesn’t have a paywall.

Oh, that's very disappointing. Very sad that he's misusing concepts like 'heritage' (it's his heritage too, as he's gardening here) and 'native' (why not choose plants that grow naturally in these conditions?). I used to like him too.

Rightsraptor · 21/02/2023 19:29

When did Wong become this fool I see before me? I know he's mates with Alice Roberts so maybe the stupidity is contagious after all.

Disappointed is not the word 😕

SleekMamma · 21/02/2023 19:32

Well actually James has a point. He is questioning what lense we are looking at horticulture through. Ok to query it, as he has his perspective.

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 21/02/2023 19:34

James Wong? the same James Wong who in his book 'Ten a Day The Easy Way' culturally appropriated Mexican recipes* adapted them AND called his female Mexican flatmates 'chicas'?

Surely not!

*And not just Mexican, IIRC. Can't be bothered to look, though.

SidewaysOtter · 21/02/2023 19:39

Alice Roberts

We have a mutual acquaintance and apparently she’s really nice, but some of her views she expounds on Twitter are Hmm

SidewaysOtter · 21/02/2023 19:40

I had to unfollow her, I can’t let her ruin Digging for Britain for me!

LexMitior · 21/02/2023 19:42

James Wong is extremely try hard

Asserting that people wanting to use more native plants and wildflowers are 'racist' isn't 'questioning'.
Yeah, problem is that endangered native fauna often depends on native plants, introduced species may be invasive because of lack of natural predators etc. Darned scientific reality again....I will very happily admit to volunteer balsam bashing on a nature reserve.

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 21/02/2023 19:45

The lens through which I look at it is 'Will this live in a container in a north facing garden and how soon before I kill it?'

LOL! One for Radio 4's GQT.

Clymene · 21/02/2023 20:07

James Wong blocked me about a year ago on Twitter. It's a shame as I used to like listening to GQT but I can't listen to a programme where one of the experts is such a blatant misogynist

Agreed, they’ve been really late to the party. They do cover media spats well though.

Abra1t · 21/02/2023 20:36

They really haven’t been late.
I don’t keep old editions but if you Google on PE trans there’s quite a bit.
