Just as there's supposedly more scrutiny on GIDS, so it seems the idea of innate gender identity is being rolled out wherever it can be made to happen:

www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-11763743/Barclay-orders-urgent-investigation-woke-NHS-guidelines-telling-staff-not-use-she.html

- Insiders say Steve Barclay 'hit the roof' when guide was unearthed by the Mail
"The Health Secretary demanded answers after learning taxpayers had funded the guide to ‘inclusive communication’.

It instructs doctors and nurses not to use phrases such as ‘Mr’ and ‘Mrs’ or ‘he’ and ‘she’ until a patient has confirmed their gender identity.
It instructs doctors and nurses not to use phrases such as ‘Mr’ and ‘Mrs’ or ‘he’ and ‘she’ until a patient has confirmed their gender identity. And they are told to consider that this may have changed since the individual’s last appointment – even if they see them regularly.
The 16-page document features a foreword by Dr Michael Brady, national adviser for LGBT health at NHS England, who describes it as a ‘must read’ for all health and social care professionals."

Brady has come up before. Such as here and Mermaids:

And in the Telegraph

www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2023/02/17/steve-barclay-hits-roof-165000-spent-telling-nhs-doctors-how/

Steve Barclay ‘hits the roof’ as £165,000 spent telling NHS doctors how to be gender-neutral
Health Secretary orders investigation after discovering taxpayers' cash used for 'woke pamphlet' on communicating with patients

"The DHSC said the guide had not been endorsed by the Government. It is understood the report has not been shared directly with NHS staff."

What's the point of spending £££ on it then?

How else is my Dr supposed to talk about me with other people? Oh…..he doesn’t because he is not allowed. When he talks to me he says “you” as in “how are you today?”. Or uses my name “lovely to see you Unadulterated Cat.

FrancescaContini · 18/02/2023 08:45

I thought the NHS was chronically and critically overstretched and underfunded. Maybe not?

Beaglesonlyplease · 18/02/2023 09:14

Ffs. My non verbal child is what then … “it”?
People with dementia?
The elderly who don’t understand?
Move aside multiple groups of people for NHS bollox on top of other bollox just because some people care about “self ID” more than anything else in the world

nilsmousehammer · 18/02/2023 09:37

Totally fuck about with 99.9% of the population to please a tiny, noisy, very sharp elbowed minority.

How exactly does this 'foster good relationships' as opposed to just totally piss everybody off?

nilsmousehammer · 18/02/2023 09:38

Btw when I talk about the sharp elbowed minority, I am referring solely to the TQ+ political lobby because that is where all the noise is coming from. And a very large number of them do not themselves appear to be TQ+.

Whatwouldscullydo · 18/02/2023 09:40

And we stick a comatose woman in tracksuit bottoms and a baggy t shirt where exactly until she can confirm her pronouns?

Apollo441 · 18/02/2023 09:44

Dr Michael Bailey is a zealot. He should have been fired/removed years ago.

Whatsnewpussyhat · 18/02/2023 10:01

If the 'silent majority' had opened their fucking mouths in the first place it would never have gotten this far.

Investigations aren't enough.

Whatwouldscullydo · 18/02/2023 10:29

Wasn't there something on here recently about someone who worked in and office and that office had a policy or something of treating everyone as gender neutral and as a result someone who was NB had a hissy fit because they no longer special and didn't stand out as everyone was addressed as they/them

TheBiologyStupid · 18/02/2023 11:49

FFS! It's nonsense on stilts.

For the past few years people gave struggled even to get through to the drs..you have 10 mins to explain.your problems probably after having to wait a fair chunk.of time past your allocated appointment time to even get called into the room. The idea theres time to waste faffing about discussing pronouns akd identities would frankly say to me.you arent sick enough to.warrant being there tbh.

Why are busy drs being used as props in narcissistic identity games. They are there to hopefully cure you not validate irrelevant stuff like an identity that realky is only relevant to you . Everyone else needs leaving out of it.not their problem or their job.

TheBiologyStupid · 18/02/2023 12:06

Absolutely, Whatwouldscullydo. My elderly mum struggles enough to get my dad an appointment, and then to get him there, without having to deal with this unnecessary ideological crap.

highame · 18/02/2023 12:11

There seem to be masses of 'non-jobs', all linked to EDI. I wonder if our public services are trying to find jobs for all the students who are coming out of our universities who are 'too educated' to stack shelves, but not bright enough for anything else. Makes me very angry

TheBiologyStupid · 18/02/2023 12:20

Clearly the solution is that the biologically confused should feel free to waste the start of their own appointments waffling on about how offended they are when the doctor correctly sexes them and just leave the rest of us to get on with addressing our health concerns.

RethinkingLife · 18/02/2023 12:24

Michael Brady has interesting form for wanting to pay lip service to engagement with some groups and reassuring others of that.

Dr Michael Brady, the national adviser for LGBT health at NHS England, has written to campaign groups telling them that there is “no plan to reduce existing rights of trans people”. Controversial charities Stonewall and Mermaids had contributed “very helpfully” to the process, Dr Brady told the Trans NHS Staff Network in emails seen by The Telegraph.

The review came just months after Sajid Javid asked his officials to look at the policies in the wake of a Telegraph investigation which revealed that some issued by NHS trusts said that male sex offenders who self-identify as women could be placed on female-only wards....

Despite the review of this guidance being ordered amid concern for the impact on women, Dr Brady said in emails that the “commitment from the team leading on the review is supporting the maintenance/strengthening of trans rights in the update”.

I do wonder, if losing valuable time in a rare to come by drs appointment, is seen as perfectly normal acceptable behaviour, what actually has to happen in order for the penny to drop that actually none of it works without the participation of non consenting strangers. I mean if u have gotten to the point you are that needy amd that freaked out by reality you dont even care if u waste your drs appointment with nonsense, its time to seek help.

Because that tiny, sharp elbowed minority are massively over represented in every single patient experience type of activity undertaken in the NHS.

Further fuelled by the uncritical acceptance of the questioning them or not immediately agreeing to what they want is literally killing people and effectively genocide as a societal narrative.

so you have massively amplified voices and decision makers terrified of not doing what they say.

This is why sampling processes really, really matter in all kinds of research and engagement activity. There are reasons why it can be important to listen to the extreme outliers but you need to remember that they are not representative of the population as a whole (intentionally) and consider this in prioritising things.

Especially in the NHS where this crap is pushing aside the needs and drowning out the voices of key population groups - disabled people, people with limited English, people from minority religious groups, and so on.

SinnerBoy · 18/02/2023 14:55

Wasting time with this sort of rubbish is bound to eat into the doctor's time and reduce the number of patients seen per day. I shouldn't think that Brady gives a damn about that, if he's even thought about it.

Hadalifeonce · 18/02/2023 15:02

Surely, all HCP would address patients either by name or in the second person, so all this bollocks is just an appalling waste of time and money. If the patient isn't around who cares how they refer to him/her?

ErrolTheDragon · 18/02/2023 15:03

It's generally a good idea for medical staff to know how a person prefers to be addressed. This isn't mere 'pronouns', it's things like knowing if someone definitely prefers to be 'Mrs Dragon' (my late DM) or by the second of her forenames (my late MIL, who on every trip to hospital in her 90s got called by her first forename which she had never used because she disliked it).

If you have that basic courtesy in place then it should allow people who want to be referred to in some non-standard way to be accommodated. It shouldn't need any special training.

Fairislefandango · 18/02/2023 15:18

Yes, quite aside from the sheer lunacy of it all, why on earth would a doctor be speaking to a patient in the 3rd person?

Dr Brady simply needs removing from that post.

Easy to imagine a situtation where pronouns are used. You go to A&E with a broken leg, doctor assesses you, says to some other staff member, "Please take him to the operating theatre." Maybe the doctor knows you name, maybe they don't. If that were me with a broken leg I wouldn't much care if the doctor called me him/her/name/whatever as long as my leg got sorted. Why should the doctor have to waste time with this nonsense. What if you're unconscious?

But for some people I guess their pronouns are more important than their actual, critical health needs (which of course might be sex-specific, e.g. you might have your period at the same time as your broken leg, and this needs to get dealt with).
