Nick just brought up institutional capture and homophobia 👍

WarriorNun · 14/02/2023 09:05

Its a brilliant interview, Hannah struggling a bit to sum up, understandably as there's so much involved.

V good piece on women's football refs following - well horrific.

Today doing better resporting on women's issues than woman's hour at the moment... Hmm

PaterPower · 14/02/2023 09:15

Just listened to it. She wasn’t given a long slot, but did manage to point out that many patients had co-morbidity problems that weren’t explored and that the well known interference from certain groups was definitely a factor in the centre’s approach.

The point she clearly felt needed the most emphasis, though, was the homophobia she said ran through the service; some of it coming from the patients themselves (and, tellingly, their parents) who didn’t want to face up to their sexuality.

It’ll be a painful but interesting read.

Justin Webb was the interviewer. He's always very good.

OldFashionedWoman · 14/02/2023 09:18

Thank you Hannah for speaking out so well on this Flowers

JanieAllen · 14/02/2023 09:21

that was good! reminder to throw some veg at LGB Alliance

WarriorNun · 14/02/2023 09:21

Justin! Sorry! Yes he's good.

LizzieSiddal · 14/02/2023 09:22

Thanks will listen. So great to hear her given time to speak about her book.

I wonder if she’ll be given time on WH considering the vast increase in girls which were referred to that service. (I won’t hold my breath)

PaleBlueMoonlight · 14/02/2023 09:22

She alluded to, but did not mention Mermaids etc.

That's horrible. Lifetime ban surely? A mate of mine played as prop forward. For one game they had a woman ref who he described as quite petite.
He thought he could get up to his tricks in the scrum but no way. ' Oy - you're boring in . Scrummage straight ! ' etc etc .

The forwards exchanged knowing looks , all thinking ' she's bloody good '

Sorry that was a reply to @WarriorNun

Igmum · 14/02/2023 09:53

Excellent piece, well done Hannah, great interviewing Nick

WarningToTheCurious · 14/02/2023 10:04

They’re going to talk about GIDS and Tavistock on Women’s Hour now too.

WarriorNun · 14/02/2023 10:04

Heard too - started a new thread

nauticant · 14/02/2023 10:05

This is going to be discussed on Woman's Hour later. It would be great to have Emma Barnett in the chair. Instead, let's see how Nuala McGovern does.

Yes that part was pretty shocking. She said she felt it was going to be a death that triggers anything to be done about in Angry
