I went to this today expecting to be inspired by amazing women. What I got was ushered into the venue by a drag queen, hosted by a man non-binary person, lectured about "Trans Joy" (which for those of you who are wondering, is "mundane, individual and everyday") by a transwomen who apart from wearing a hideous dress and 8 inch platform shoes was, to all intents and purposes not a woman, and asked to put my pronouns on my name badge.

Women can have nothing to ourselves. I left feeling pissed right off.

What was the event advertised as?

Meme69 · 05/02/2023 19:36

I didn't see advertising tbf as I got gifted a ticket last minute, but I thought (naively) that the clue was in the title! They already have TEDxLondon which is for everyone so I figured this was about empowerment of women. Having just googled it they are very LGBTQ+. Lesson learned! It's just a shame that what could have been showcasing women really wasnt.

c'mon

everyone knows men with fetishes are woefully unrepresented on the internet. it's good to see them getting some airtime

Oh and how could I forget... Trans people are "the most discriminated and attacked in society", which really jarred against the next talk which about the killing of women in Iran for daring to show a lock of hair!

Maddening. I'm sorry this happened. How obnoxious.

Maybe one day the Iranian women will catch on and realise that their way out of this is to identify as men.

Oh wait…

Delphin · 14/07/2023 06:53

Actually, apparently there are a number of transwomen in Iran. It's basically the only way to live officially as a homosexual, in Iran, so some men are going this way. It seems that the government sees no religious problem.
Whether women would be allowed to identify as men is an open question. I don't think one has tried so far.

Next TEDxLondonWomen, why not take along a fat black marker and strike out the "Wo-"? (Sadly, this does not work in my language. Although, as more and more "progressive" politics uses American concepts in English language, I might get lucky).
