I was planning on getting back into The Sims this summer (got addicted as a teen so vowed not to play it til my kids went to secondary school).

Now I'm just going to keep my self imposed ban but for new reasons.

As a long time Sims player, this is what CC is for as far as I'm concerned.

If the creators want an official option, then it should be part of a game pack (DLC) which is optional.

This also goes for the annoying crap make-up, tattoo and piercing options which I never use and make create a sim cluttered.

I'm not a game player but even i can see this is so bloody wrong. Do a separate adult version if you must. Or add on or something.

I don't get why breast binders and top surgery us allowed to be normalised. It's fucking criminal (or it should be!!)

Get a better hobby than playing a game. Inprove your life, not the lives of little graphic people in an imaginary world.

A say this as an ex sims addict in my youth aswell.

Looking back, if I had invested those hours into playing guitar, learning a language or any other skill, i would have something useful to show for it.

Its a complete and utter waste of time.

If you're going to play the Sims, play Sims 3. None of the reviews of Sims 4 ever convinced me that it was worth the expense of switching.

It's a con. You've got a perfectly functioning world, with all the expansions, and then EA Games convinces you to buy the newest release without all the features you're used to, like Pets and Seasons. So then you have to buy the new equivalent expansions for the latest base game, all at £30+ each!

Meh it is a game. You're a grown up, i presume. If you want to play, play. Restrict your content usage to whatever you like. You have control. If your kids play, keep an eye on them or restrict as you see fit. To be honest, you don't need anyone's permission to play or restrict yourself. But not playing because of one set of skins seems a bit daft. Sounds like the Harry Potter legacy brigade.

Fairly typical of Californian tech companies and the lobbying of external LGBT+ groups to make these changes. EA are desperate to get high up on GLAAD (or similar) media indexes.

I do wonder why trans people want to play as trans characters instead of characters of the opposite sex? It's very much tying into this theme of trans being an identity in itself. For instance teenage girls don't want to become men, they want to become trans men.

EA also has a big presence in Canada specifically Vancouver. They have worked in the past with an organisation called GenderCool who give the impression of being akin to a youth wing of Stonewall.

Sims 4 has been extremely trans virtue signally since it started XD it seems to be very popular with their audience. I don't think EA remotely care about either trans rights or women's rights TBH, they are just doing what makes them the most money. Their target audience is largely young women/teen girls, and young women/teen girls in the Western market are overwhelmingly in thrall to the trans stuff, so that's the side they have picked. It's not progressive, it's just capitalism.

I still play Sims 2. Best version of all of them IMO. Just a brilliant game and so many mods for it now that the possibilities are endless. Best of all no million expansions to drain your wallet! They had 8 expansions and they were all good.

VitaminX · 02/02/2023 14:56

It always had a huge amount of sci-fi and fantasy stuff. I think you could also set characters to be male with the ability to get pregnant (not just by aliens) and vice versa. It's a cartoonish virtual dolls house game, in no way is it intended as a gritty depiction of real life. Sure this is stupid but it's just a game.

It may be just a game, but younger generations are being told, even encouraged, at school, by those teaching them, that they can change sex and are offered the means and support to do so, then the game becomes true to life for them. It just reinforces what is already being taught in schools.
