'Any admission that the government’s critics were correct cannot disguise either the size of the hole the SNP-Green coalition has dug for itself. Voters rightly recoil at the thought it was ever considered “best practice” to house male sex offenders in a women’s facility. They are entitled to wonder why Ms Sturgeon’s government not just permitted this to happen but encouraged it.'

Thank you.

Finally! people are seeing what some women have been banging on about for years!

It's not good enough that this sudden outcry is something we are in a position to find a positive!

We should never have got to a place where the barbarity of it all had to become a bloody news article at all.

I'm so sick of the shit.

This surely has to be the moment it all tumbles. Because if not now when?

The government continues to insist that predatory men, not trans people, are the issue. This is a means to evade a fundamental difficulty: if identity is a matter of self-declaration, how are predatory men to be distinguished from predatory trans people? The government cannot answer this because doing so would acknowledge the flimsy nature of the intellectual case for its proposals.

Faced with legitimate concerns, the first minister declined to consider these on their merits. Opponents concerned were deemed “not valid”. Warnings that self-ID would make life easier for “bad actors” were dismissed as scaremongering.

Yet events have vindicated those critics, most of them women.

Excellent editorial.

How was the GRRB ever passed? Shame on every one of those SMPs. This exact problem (one of many) was explained over and over but the voices were silenced. It will never happen oh no. It was already happening.
