Jo Phoenix on Twitter: 35 weeks videos posted today

I'm currently suspended from Twitter so can't access this but Jo Phoenix has recorded two short videos today about her experience of being forced out of her job at the OU (where she was Professor of Criminology) for saying that academics needed to be able to collect sex-specific data. In 2020 she was told this was transphobic, compared to a holocaust denier and no one stood up for her. She was subsequently forced out and is taking the OU to an employment tribunal, which is costing a crazy amount of money. But, as Jo notes, the events of the last couple of days have indicated that she was right all along.

I suspect that by October, when the case is due to be held, the OU is going to look even more stupid than Maya Forstater's think tank did.

Yes, the fact the Jo is a Professor of Criminology should make this a fascinating tribunal, especially now the social climate has shifted.

I wouldn’t be surprised if her former employers try and settle out of court rather than look utterly stupid in public.

Thanks for linking to the videos. It really does feel as if the corner has been turned in the last few days. Forget No Debate, people are talking about this subject at bus stops and in the pub and increasingly at work. By October the OU is going to find it very difficult to argue that academic freedom means silencing women and others who speak out.
