Not the national team but representing the country at the opening ceremony based on being a woman, not a man.

The girl who held her country's flag and had to help "the skater" up..as she skates off, her face says it all.

The individual is a competitive skater who skates in competitions meant for women. This isn't someone they found at the local rink.

tbh it actually seems somewhat ‘unkind’ to allow this person to make such an obvious fool of themselves. They can’t skate - they can’t skate whether they’re dressed as a man, women or unicorn. However the only reason they are there skating is because they are a TW.

I know this is very funny but, at the same time, have we totally given up on the idea of merit? People don't watch international skating competitions to see hobbyists giving it a go, even if it is just the opening ceremony. To me, diversity is about ensuring that anyone who dreams of becoming a champion ice skater isn't hampered in developing their talent by lack of money or opportunity or by prejudice. It doesn't mean indulging a mass delusion that identity has more worth than talent. I bet they could have found a woman who took up skating in later life who could actually stay upright.

To be fair, it wasn't supposed to be showcasing people who can skate. It was something like 'you can be who you are, everyone can skate'. Well, obviously not, but everyone is welcome to try!

Ok, well I guess maybe the video I tried to post is iffy? There is video out there of Minna-Maaria skating supposedly a couple of years ago. And the skating was much better. Not good or graceful but a couple of more difficult elements, like an Attitude Spin are just about pulled off. So that performance was either deliberately terrible or worse than normal due to nerves/an injury.
