Good article in the Times supporting Rosie Duffield and revealing that Labour is starting to change its stance — but only slightly. Long way to go yet. Archived version of the article here:

Good news because the UK desperately needs a strong opposition/Labour Party.

They are currently unelectable to half the population. We need them to be strong 💪 much stronger at both Holyrood and Westminster.

BernardBlacksMolluscs · 29/01/2023 10:20

I love the picture they've chosen of furious LRM, wagging his manly finger. Look at his righteous passion!

Reading this made me feel worse about labour tbh.
Secret meetings, GC MPs too scared to speak up.
These people want to run our country!

There’s a live poll running at the end of that piece asking whether everyone who identifies as female should have access to women only spaces. Over 10,500 votes so far and 97% say no.

Edam1 · 29/01/2023 10:50

Great piece. I'm glad to hear Labour might possibly be recovering some grasp on reality but I doubt we'll get anyone apologising or admitting how wrong they were

pattihews · 29/01/2023 11:24

Yes, I agree: I don't think they're going to apologise and say they got this badly wrong. And until they've actually admitted they got it wrong and profoundly insulted half the population and shown themselves to be absolute pillocks, can we actually trust them? It would take a major public apology and a cast-iron pledge to abolish the GRA and create a clear and unbreakable commitment to protection of women-only spaces before I'll vote Labour. And as I wrote that all I could think of was Nick Clegg's pledge on tuition fees...

I want Sunak and co to crack on with this as fast as possible. Add it on as something to be done while the Scotland/ Section 35 issue is being fought out. Treat it as an emergency and get it all through.

I once asked my Labour MP if I would be included on an All Women Shortlist as I don't 'identify' as a woman - I just am a woman and don't have any kind of gender identity.

They replied "no".

nilsmousehammer · 29/01/2023 11:52

I'm afraid thinking that a bit more 'nuance' would 'regain respect' for Starmer from women is a wee bit optimistic.

There is no nuance. Get men out of women's spaces. And I would not trust Starmer to tell me the right time.

PronounssheRa · 29/01/2023 12:03

Almost a year ago I asked a question in a MN webchat with Stella Creasey. The question was about misogyny and the lack of support from the party for Rosie. It went unanswered.

People having to meet in private and being afraid to speak out through fear of abuse is not democracy and no way to run a party

Just watched the Queen's Speech, they nicknamed LRM the ginger gender jabber. Nothing wrong with being ginger.

But that tie with that shirt!

I desperately need Labour to sort themselves out with this. Just to acknowledge that there's a clash of rights. Kier Starmer is either a gutless coward or neck deep in genderwoo.

BernardBlacksMolluscs · 29/01/2023 22:33

it felt shallow to mention it, as it is the least of his crimes, but god yes that shirt / tie combo. really, what was he thinking?

IcakethereforeIam · 29/01/2023 22:39

Oh thank God, it not just me!

Sazzasez · 30/01/2023 01:05

Any guesses as to who the “senior labour woman” - shadow cabinet member - who got told off to delete her tweet could be?

smileladiesplease · 30/01/2023 01:27

Yvette???

Sazzasez · 30/01/2023 02:07

Not in Shadow Cabinet I think.

Sazzasez · 30/01/2023 02:09

Oh - she is!

So is Dodds.

I agree that is worse within Labour than I even imagined. No free speech whatsoever in a western democracy.
The Tories may still be 30% captured but at least they let their MPs speak freely and allow them to reject gender identity ideology in favour of reality i.e. biology.
Labour are so captured they still won't allow LWD a stall at their next event. I can't trust them even if they do appear to back peddle somewhat.

JKRfan · 30/01/2023 02:26

I mean I could understand it maybe if the voting public were also on board with gender woo but as the recent prisons debacle shows, when confronted with the reality of what self-id means, the vast majority of people are rightly appalled.
So ironic that it is the 200th anniversary of Elizabeth Fry's prison reforms. She must be 'turning in her grave'.

Could be Thangam Debbonaire maybe. She spoke out once when a feminist fringe meeting at Labour conference was met with a mob.
She's the shadow leader of the house.

Sazzasez · 30/01/2023 04:49

it could. She wore suffragette colours to a debate recently.

No woman is ever going to forget Starmer not knowing if only women have a cervix: or Rosie Duffield being bullied by misogynistic men when trying to speak in the House of Commons; or the fact that Labour makes no comment on what happened at the Tavistock Clinic. They don't care about those children, They they don't care about real women. They only care about appeasing trans people. So they don't get my vote.and they never will.

Yes the silence from Labour on the Tavistock scandal is deafening. Given that they could blame it on the Tories as it happened on their watch, Labour's failure to mention it at all, is worthy of investigation.
