What a surprise....scottish womens aid biggest cheerleaders of the snp no doubt!

LizzieSiddal · 19/01/2023 08:25

I think we, in the Parish of MN already knew this. It’s great it’s getting media coverage now. Well done Nicola!

ResisterRex · 19/01/2023 08:28

Worth reading the responses to Alison Thewliss' tweet:

'The Gender Recognition Reform Bill is supported by every major women's rights and feminist organisation in Scotland. It has been extensively debated over several years, and explicitly states it does not affect the Equality Act.

The UK Government is simply not telling the truth.'

twitter.com/alisonthewliss/status/1615650879947808770?cxt=HHwWhICxxcn6-OssAAAA

For those who can't use Twitter - the vast majority call Alison a 'liar'.

NancyDrawed · 19/01/2023 09:57

Looking a bit further down the twitter ink in the OP, there is a bloke talking about how when he gets married he doesn't want to have to write Mr and Male on the certificate etc and aside from the minimising of 'it's just admin' Evan Davies actually says 'So in all these cases, it's not actually that you can't get married, it's a feeling thing about who you are when you get married. So it's like an identity certificate [continues]'

It's fair to say I'm a little shocked to hear that coming from ED

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 19/01/2023 10:00

It's really frustrating that the mainstream media has only started looking at these things now.

Trans people’s rights contribute to equality for all and ending violence against all women.
What a bizarre statement. How will women losing their right to say "No" to men reduce violence against women?

Not to mention transwomen (men) being allowed in refuges.

JellySaurus · 19/01/2023 16:32

Exactly! Any male wants into women's spaces, women will be banned from saying "No" to them.

Hip2BSquare · 19/01/2023 16:44

It says in the article that the bill was supported by Rape Crisis Scotland who advocate for women. Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't it now run by a TW, who is a pal of NS?

ResisterRex · 19/01/2023 17:10

A TW with no GRC. A literal man.

Thanks, that's what I thought. They make it sound like those who advocate for women support this bill instead of it being just another case of men controlling the narrative once again. I haven't been keeping up as much these days as last time I got hopeful it all went downhill again. We're lost where I am, but I cheer you all on from afar.

A TW with no GRC. A literal man.

A man who thinks women who object to males in women's spaces like rape crisis centres are transphobic bigots who need to be educated and to reframe their trauma.
(Such empathy! Such knowledge of women!)

ResisterRex · 19/01/2023 17:42

Not forgetting the interview about rape victims having orgasms.

studentnewspaper.org/an-insight-with-mridul-wadhwa-into-working-in-a-rape-crisis-centre/

"The other myth is that your body may react in a physical way to sexual violence including an orgasm but that does not mean that it’s not rape because that’s a physical response. You can’t control how your body responds to violence."

Certainly a "unique" approach to rape and trauma.

From the Times article
Rape Crisis said it had tackled ministers on serious policy issues, and was dealing with “very real threats to women’s rights”

but….but….look
in February 2022 the Scottish Daily Express
wrote,

Calls for Rape Crisis Scotland to be reviewed following legal ruling on 'what it is to be a woman'

The job description specified that it must be filled by a woman but the current head of Edinburgh's Rape Crisis Centre, a trans-identified man with no GRC could be in breach of equality rules argue campaigners.

To update the Equality Act to make sure sex means biological sex, not sex as modified by a gender recognition certificate,
