”A woman is not a man sans penis, and I'm no longer prepared to pretend.”
While I don’t think I ever even pretended that a male with extreme surgery was ever a woman, I do think the time for lying is over.
I understand that some people feel differently, however, no male can ever become a female. Well, until the world has developed the tech to vaporize our bodies and reconfigure them at atomic level. Nice to dream about for Star Trek fans, but I suspect that by 2400 (stardate 77002.26) some people will be looking back with disappointment. Like I am because there are no hover boards! (I suspect someone has the technology developed but is determined to keep all the hoverboards for themselves!)
I feel the time for lying has past. Partly because we can now see the damage and harm done to those who are most vulnerable. When you have, in Canada, a 30 year old male registering for assisted death because they cannot live their life knowing that at 19 they believed doctors and those around them that inverting their penis would make them feel better about themselves, you know that this is the result of perpetuating a lie.
How many female transitioners have told us on these very boards that they realise even though they ‘pass’, that they know they can never be men? They quickly realise and have learned to accept it.
Has perpetuating the lie helped these individuals really?
And Partly because forcing a population to engage in a lie on this scale (not just 1 person and not just 1 day) is pretty fucked up when you take the time to consider it. I mean, how kind is that really to everyone who is forced to continue to lie?
